The Gyps vultures are a genus of Old World vultures in the bird family Accipitridae, which also includes eagles, kites, buzzards and hawks.
These are the typical vultures, with bald head, broad wings and mainly dark plumage. They are large scavenging birds, feeding mostly from carcasses of dead animals. Old World vultures find carcasses exclusively by sight. Representatives of this group are found throughout warmer parts of the Old World.
The characteristic featherless head is because a feathered head would become spattered with blood and other fluids, and thus be difficult to keep clean.

Una foto para los amigos del Alto Tajo, que durante muchas horas se mantuvieron pacientes en el observatorio, en silencio, sin moverse, sin salir ni entrar, con ropas de camuflaje sin ponerse colonia ni perfume, en fin … como auténticos pajareros. La foto está sin recortar, pero el pelín de ala cortada está hecho a propósito para salir de la vulgaridad de la perfección ;o)))) Un fuerte abrazo y grato recuerdo a todos y todas los miembros y las miembras de la kdd de abril-mayo de 2007.

This is a very good picture.Good capture.The picture could be more sharper.Bg is excellent.But the Thing is Avoiding cutting the wings of the Bird in the frame

Preciosa Ferran, en especial la cabeza donde se aprecia la finura de su plumaje. Considero que a pesar del corte el encuadre es elegante. Buen fondo en contraste con el ava.

Hello Ferran,

It seems there was a pretty strong light that allowed you to set such a fast shutter speed at such a small aperture. Anyway, you froze the movement of the bird in midair and managed an excellent exposure to preserve details both on the upper side of the bird and under the wings. I would have loved it if you placed the bird more towards the right hand side of the composition but it looks great this way too. Very well done! Thank you.
