Chicharra alicorta
Ephippiger ephippiger

Saddle-backed bushcricket
Ephippiger ephippiger

A warm summer afternoon, just after eating, while my boyfriend was sleeping his siesta, I took hold of the camera and to the field I went to lower the food and to see what tiny beasts I could find. I already began to think that the tiny beasts had also went away to sleep the siesta when suddenly I found myself in the middle of a big colony of nice bushcrickets. Well, they seemed nice to me as soon as I found that they were pacific and they did not move from where they were. Some of them (the females -in the workshop-) were laying eggs and all.

Saddle-backed bushcrickets are common orthopterous insects of family tettigoniidae, with good size and easy identification by its combination of anatomical particularities: the antennas are longer than the body and arise from the head below the composed eyes, the wings are only vestigial and the abdomen is great and potbellied. In addition at the end of her abdomen, the females have a long oviscaptus of 2,0 to 2,5 cm to lay eggs. The colors are variable, from green to dark brown. These bushcrickets emit a song or acute squeak by means of the racousnessing organ located in the forewings hidden under the pronotice that covers the thorax. Saddle-backed bushcrickets are found in dry lands, vineyards, scrubs or hills. The adults live in summer and autumn.

I hope you like it.
Thank you very much for your visit.
Have a nice week!

Hola Maite,

Grazie,
Marcello

Fantastic capture of this intricately patterned cricket!
+++ The POV is fabulous and you show a very original view of this insect.
Pin-point focusing and superb sharpness.
You used a perfect DOF as well :)
--- A few minute OE areas, but like I said, they're minute so I'd be very harsh to say that it effects your picture in a negative way :)
Top work Maite.
Well done,
Joe

What is the most striking in your picture is this special composition which is really unconventional. Interesting also the workshop picture. Most interesting posting.

Hola Maite,

Hello Maite.
Excellent close up capture.Good POV and sharp image.Detail and light are excellent.
TFS Michel

The editing of the image has been done thoughtfully here, Maite. I too wouldn't worry too much about those clipped antennae because the real winner is that sharp and intriguing face of the cricket captured from an unusual point of view.
With aperture value at f/4, there would be points of over-exposure here and there; but then that's the chosen technique for creating an innovative picture, isn't it?
Thanks for sharing the image and also for writing your kind words on my 500th post.
Regards.

Hola Maite,
What an interesting image, amiga! Like an extramundi (extraterrestrial) monster from a 3rd rate sci-fi movie of the '80's. :) But as a photo, very fine low POV, great sharpness (except for the closer antenna, but it's impossible to focus on everything, I know) and bg. Really an outstanding capture done in the rightest moment, when the insect seemed like posing for You.
Congrats and tfs, have a nice day, Madamoiselle. Respectful regards, László
