Here another shot of Calopteryx splendens.

Looking at my last post, and taking into account Robert´s comment about chewing-sucking, I looked carefully and find some differences in the mouth of this insects.

In some shots like this one they seem to have several prominent segments in the upper part of the mouth (in this case the light coloured parts), and in other shots like the potrait Paul posted recently, they dont.

I have no idea about this little flying beauties, but maybe has something to do with chewing-sucking?

Hope you like!

Jewel emerging from deep dark BG ;-) Superb Felipe! Again you took phenomenal photo! Metallic shinning greens, details, sharpness. Composition? I like it!

Cool macro, nice and clear details. I reckon it chews. Interesting POV.

This is almost surreal in its beauty. What a wonderful composition and DOF! You did a brilliant job here Felipe, I think its fantastic :)

This is so nice Felipe. Lovey use of the limited DOF and the dark BG makes the rest dissapear very nicely. Very sharp and great composition. Love this.

Hi Felipe, I had missed these shots. I think this is fantastic. Excellent lighting and superb composition. Great work!

I've noticed those white parts you mention and they appear to be some kind of waxy substance that emanates from the base of the antennae. I have no idea what they are and I may write to an expert and ask.

Preciosa fotografia, gran acercamiento, la pose parece concertada, debe ser realmente dificil hacer un macro-retrato. Estupendo encuadre, me encanta este trabajo.

Great picture, Felipe, just discovered via your most recent posting. Very creative. I enjoy it very much. Thank you!
