Today I want to show you a picture of a location form of Ophrys tenthredinifera.
We were able to visit this beautiful species among/into the mountains of Ibiza.
We were also able to find another Ophrys species and also hybrids between Ophrys tenthredinifera.

Flower of Ophrys tenthredinifera
Scientific classification
Kingdom: Plantae
(unranked): Angiosperms
(unranked): Monocots
Order: Asparagales
Family: Orchidaceae
Subfamily: Orchidoideae
Tribe: Orchidae
Subtribe: Orchidinae
Alliance: Orchis
Genus: Ophrys
Species: O. tenthredinifera
Binomial name: Ophrys tenthredinifera
Willd.

The Sawfly Orchid (Ophrys tenthredinifera) contains as a kind of the genus Ophrys in the orchid family (Orchidaceae). The name is the genus name from the ancient Greek word ὀφρύς (ophrys) = "eyebrow" and in-kind epithet from the ancient Greek-Latin word tenthredinifer = "leaf-bearing wasps." The first description of this kind was made in 1805 by the botanist Carl Ludwig Willdenow in his work "Species Plantarum linnaei". Due to the variability of the flowers this species has been previously described over thirty times, or as a new subspecies or a variety, with names that are usually regarded as synonymous.

This orchid preferred garrigues, calcareous grasslands, sparse pine forest and maquis with basic to slightly acidic soils to a height of 1800 m above sea level.

The range almost extends over the entire Mediterranean region and is missing only in the Levant and Cyprus. In the east, ending in the distribution area of southern Turkey.

Cheers,
Sascha
