The black soldier fly ( Hermetia illucens ) is a species of Diptera Stratiomyidae family native to America , but has spread throughout southern Europe , Africa , Asia and the Pacific Islands . It feeds on dung, but can also feed kitchen waste to make compost. It can be used for animal feed . Its collection is very simple , if you design the container properly collect them same to find a place to shelter just before reaching pupation

It can be combined with the compost worms . Earthworms can leverage the cellulose that flies can not digest.

These larvae are more resistant to various substances such as ammonia , alcohol and poisons from food , (limonene is toxic to lombrices). Its metabolism is very active.

Hello Roberto,
not so beautiful like colourful butterlfies, but we should comment here on the quality of
the picture and not too much on the beauty of the object.
You present the fly with high sharpness and due to f22 with a highly suitable depth of field.
Also exposure and light handling is perfect.
So ... I like this picture of an insect which is rarely shown if at all at TN.
Best wishes, Peter
