[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Sahara Blue-tailed Damselfly (Ischnura saharensis) is found south of the Atlas Mountains and on the Canary Islands.

It's biology and exact distribution is relatively unknown and it has only recently been separarated as a species from the similar I. elegans. It is thought to reproduce in stagnant patches of water in desert or semi-desert.

We found this pair near the only water course in N. Fuerteventura at El Molino, below a nearly empty reservoir.

Despite the use of relatively high aperture, the DOF in this shot is very limited and I could not reduce the shutter speed as the camera was hand-held. Nor did I want to increase the ISO.

But despite the limitations I hope you can enjoy the sight of this relatively unknown little damselfly.

... Hoppas allt väl med dig & Ulla. -5 i mina trakter...

Hej Ivan,
a very nice tandem of a beautiful pair. The colours are warm and lovely, the BG is clean and compostion are very nice.
Details is good too, mat the head of the mail is a bit OOF.
Well done.

En mycket vacker bild.

Being relatively unknown, this species of damselflies is much more significant in terms of our quest for nature here on TN, IMHO, Ivan.
You are being modest about DOF in this picture; it is just perfect!
Both insects are in sharp focus and stand out well against the pinkish brown BG. Never mind slight blurring here and there.
The formations these insects make while mating amaze me.
Regards.
Ram

Hi Ivan

What a charming couple of damsels.
I've seen quite a lot of these, in this pose, but rarely got a decent shot.
I'm raelly happy for yours, because you managed to keep only them in the frame and to blurr the BG magnificently.
The colors are charming and the sharpness is very good, too.
Very well done, my friend!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Ivan,
Another fantastic capture from you. Great detail and color thanks for sharing and thanks for all the great postings.

Hello Ivan,
very pretty fragile looking damselflies, indeed. Delicious colours of green and blue, well presented in front of a very subtle, neutral, well contrasting background.
Thank you! Best regards,
Peter

Yes Ivan,
a rare species well presented, that what makes TN so interesting. You did it again here. Thank you very much, Ivan

Cheers, Dietrich

Hi Ivan,
Beautiful shot, with brilliant colours and excellent compo. In effect, I agree with you about not using a slower speed as camera shake would have been more visible. The background has a grainy effect that I find very attractive - noise could be used to good effect then!

Hi Ivan.
I like your very impressive composition with its beautiful couple. Elegant pose of these dragonfly and elegant shot. Amazing BG, delicate colour tone and blurriness. Crisp sharpness of the insect and twig and great clear, rich and natural colours. Superb done and my best regards.

Hi Ivan, this is a very well composed shot of these damselflies. I probably would have been tempted to go for a portrait format but you have chosen square. I think your choice is actually a better one here. The colour is very good and the detail, given the circumstances is not bad.
Thanks, John

Hello Ivan,
what an amazing background. The colour combination is defenitly great in your image. You mentioned the dof which is a pity but not disturbing.
How did you sharpen the image. In my opinion it's a slight bit over the top. I use the unsharpen mask in Photoshop (settings: 100%; 0,2 pixels; treshold 0). Depending on the image I use it 1 to sometimes 8 or 9 times as one of the last steps in postprocessing.

Beside this minor crititque I think the overall image is great!
Best regards, Jacob

Hello Ivan,
I perfectly understand those limitations you are talking about and I think that you achieved a very difficult shot pretty well. I like those colors, POV and composition a lot. Well done with interesting notes. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Ivan

A lovely shot of this duo of damselflies with the male carefully guarding his female from other amorous interference.

The composition is really excellent in its simplicity showing only a branch and the two insects. The colours are pleasing, the details are nice and sharp as the haziness in the wings of the lower subject seems to be movement and not focus related, the BG is superb, and the lighting was well managed.

Great work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hello Ivan,
I missed some of your pic. SO going thru your pics.
This is very difficult to capture. I had tried once with S2 IS. Even with the conditions you mentioned, this turned out nice one. Nice dtails of lower damselfly. The one which is above is a bit out of focus because of the DOF you mentioned. The backgroundis great , uniform. A bit oversharpened and u might have used Neat Image to remove the noise. Over al nice work.

Regards
Mahesh

Hi Ivan this is a superb shot I like the detail and colours are beautifull and sharpness is good, good background blur with contrasting colours tfs rdgs Necip.

Dear Ivan,
I love your bird pictures, but these damselflies are realy awesome. In spite of your search for a deeper DOF it is clear, colourful and very well done. Their position is fantastic.

Ivan,
Great 'wheel mating' capture.
Lovely contrasted colours.
Your notes educated me. Thanks.
Sharp focusing.
Very well presented.
Best regards from Canada, from
Mario.

Ivan, como siempre, gracias por tu ayuda en la Id de C. fucispinus: Qué haría sin ti ?? jajaja
Tu foto como siempre excelente, buena mezcla de delicadas formas y colores amenizadas por un buen fondo. Saludos: J. Ignasi Tejedor
