Burnet Moth species , Zygaena minos

Swedish name: Klubbsprötad bastrdsvärmare. This means the 'burnet with the club-formed antennae'. As this does not occur in the UK, there is no English name

There are two are in copula in the WORKSHOP..

The forewings have a slight transparency and tend to be more pointed that those of most species of Burnets. The antennae have broader club-shaped tips than those of other species.

This species is rare in Sweden, occurring in a few lime-rich localities rich in flowers in the SE. It is red-listed as vulnerable, owing to loss of habitat caused by modern agriculture.

It is widespread but not especially common in Europe, more common in the S.

It emerges in June/July and the larval host plants are various plants belonging to the Leguminosae.

It was taking with my long lens using my cheap tripod as support at a distance of about 1.8 meters (6ft) After slight cropping and size reduction the image was slightly sharpened, adjusted for shading and converted from RAW to JPEG.

Hello Ivan,
I think that the beauty this species is very hard show. When you look at this species in nature are visible more tints on its wings. Yours is taken very well, good sharpness and pattern on wings is visible very well.

Have a good weekend.

Dear Ivan,
cheerfully bright and sunny, colourful and clear presentation of Zygaena minos.
Grateful to read your notes about the properties to distinguish this species from very similar Z. purpuralis. They are making me review some of the documentation pictures stored under "Z. purpuralis" in my archives.
With thanks, and all my best wishes to you,
Peter

P.S.:
Thank you for your visit and kind words to my latest posting. Wishing you all the best for all those things to do when moving to another place. Looking forward to seeing and hearing from you again!

Thanks for showing us this Rare Swedish Burnet Moth. I have always seen the red and grey version but this transparency of the wings is an amazing creature. I like the details and well exposed details on that beautiful flower. Nice and bright image against the silenced smooth background.
Well done and best regards,
