[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This male shrike is using his tail as a signalling device to tell me to keep away from his children in the nearby bushes. He spreads and flicks his tail while making warning noises to keep my attention while his partner and young move to a safer place.

Though the Red-backed Shrike is still the most common species in Europe, it is sadly declining owing mostly to habibtat destruction. It requires an open bushy habitat rich in flowers, insects and small reptiles. Such habitats are being taken over by modern agriculture, forestry and human habitation.

This shot was taken with camera hand-held and against the light at a distance of about 15 meters, all of which required some PP work.

Hi Ivan,
another great shot of this Shrike.
Sharp and detailed.
Great DOF.
Only downside is the bit of noise.
Well done,
Joe

Hej Argus,
A very nice picture of Törnskatan, good sharpness and fine details.
Maybe it's a bit UE but it's not easy against the sky.
Lovely colours and well composed.
Well done.

Hi Ivan,
Excellent moment!
I like the way the tails is extended to signal you to keep away his belongings.
The exposure on the whites is spot on.
I like also the composition made against the blue sky.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Hi Ivan,
Wonderful shot of this Shrike. Superb display of its tail and the image is sharp and claer details. The blue sky as BG works wonders here in highlighting the Shrike and lovely colour tones here. I like your POv to capture this majestic pose and a precise DOF. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Very nice photo of our Törnskata. I really like the pose with the spreaded tail. You also got a nice reflection in the eye. The lightning conditions seems to have been rather difficult and you have managed well in your PP work.

As you know I have the same camera and I can see traces of a problem that I have with it. This photo is only on 200 ISO and yet I can see traces of noise in it, probably because of the PP work... right? I might be over sensitive but I think I prefer a bit softer image after more nose reduction as an alternative. This noise problem is the main reason for why I am thinking about upgrading this camera....

Best regards/Bengt Falke

Hi Ivan,

How interesting about the tail as a way of sending signals. You lined this up perfectly between the branches. A beautiful bird with wonderful colors and fine details. I see you have a blue sky - we don't.

Jane

Hi Ivan,
Great shot of the strike.
great colours it really stands out infront of the blue BG.
well done
Jemima:)

Hello Ivan , excellent colors and comp. TFS.

Very beautiful capture Ivan.
Excellent note, of wich I did learn a lot, sharpness and exposure, wich was'nt easy shooting against the light.
Wonderful pose of the bird with it's tail feathers spread out.
Just a little color noise on the chest and underneath the back end, but thats just a minor flaw and must be because of the PP, lightening up that parts a bit.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Harry

Hello Ivan,
Wonderful capture. Excellent timing. Nicely composed. Details, POV great. Coloration agains the blue sky very well. Good notes. Best wishes

Hi Ivan,
OK, is that a right turn signal or left ? ;)
Good detail, sharpness, color, POV, and I like this composition also. At 45 feet it's a significant crop, still looks great though.
Well done.

Je reviens.

Hi Ivan, lovely bird, great contrast with splendid blu sky, wonderful colors and great sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Ivan, very nicely captured with the tail wide open like this. The bird is sharp and has struck a good pose for you. Your PP work looks good, don't know what you did, but everything looks fine from here. Great detail and colour and you even got some catch light in the eye, tough to do with the dark banding I bet.

Thanks, John

Hi Ivan,
Oh what a cute little bird..:o) Good POV and great color, love that blue sky and the stark branches he sits on . TFS

Hello Ivan,
lively and clear, well detailed and colourful presentation of that pretty, conspicuous Red-backed Shrike.
Precise camera work, remarkably good quality for such a long distance shot with PP close cropping.
Thank you! With best regards,
Peter
