Yellow Wood Violet (Viola biflora)

This is a first for this species of violet on TN!

The title is a translation of the Swedish name 'Fjällviol'

This species of violet is common in the Scandinavian Mountains. It also thrives in damp shady places in other parts of Europe, though it is not that common.

When my son and I travelled up to S. Lapland this violet was in full bloom in the damp and mossy nooks and crannies of the mountains. This was taken at about 900 meters (2950 ft) a s l. It also occurs in lowland forested areas of the north where it is rare.

The name suggests that this species is two-flowered but there were many with more than two flowers on the same plant and here you can see the bud of a third flower.

This was taken above the tree-line with my hand-held but my elbows resting on the ground at a distance of about 1.8 meters (6 ft). After moderate cropping and size reduction the image was selectively sharpened.

regards Siggi

Hi Ivan, my neighbour,
Excellent macro capture of this beautiful yellow wood violet from a good POV with wonderful details, DOF and composition.
TFS my friend!

Hi Ivan

Cool shot of this attractive herb.
Good composition, details and sharpness.
Nice to see a flower from the far north

Hello Ivan,
We have the Viola odorata of course, but I thought all the other violets are multicoloured. Well, my mistake obviously, your bright yellow violets are so nice to behold, under a harsh sunlight their contrast with the green surroundings is very striking. TFS this fine macro-naturescape my friend.

Hi Ivan,

A beautiful pair of Yellow Wood Violet and the single bud. The yellow flowers and the green leaves are exquisite. I must be naive (ignorant) because I expected a violet to be violet. Beautiful colors and excellent details. I love the shapes of these flowers. A gorgeous picture and wonderful composition.

Hi Ivan,
Very nice picture of this Yellow Wood Violet with good POV, very effective DOF, sharp details and nice natural BG.

Dear Ivan,
I have to say the drama here in this composition is provided by the lighting you have been able to utilise.I love the richness it imparts to the yellow of the twinflowers and subtleness and mellowness to the green around. The composition is so endearingly simple yet very elegant.
The flowers themselves look so wonderful with the patterns running on the petals. From 900 asl this is a beautiful share you remembered to bring for us.
Thanks a lot and cheers

hi ivan,
the lighting is so special here, the colors, yellow and greens come alive with the interplay of different shades of green makes this image very pleasent. tfs.

Only from you would come something so unusual and new....violet is a colour but I guess just as being a certain nationality as opposed religion..I would have to say that violet now takes on a totally different meaning...very cleaver...I could say more about this whole philosophy but it would be off topic for sure...yet leave s the photo as still quite a phenom!

hello iva,
the first stance to this picture immidiately captures the attention for the striking yellow color of the petals, well composed shot, looks like the flowers are glowing,
well done,
tfs & regards

hello Ivan

very beautiful image of these plants/flowers with a excellent luminosity,
beautiful sharpness and details, and a superb contrast of the colours, TFS

Hello Ivan,
I don't think I've ever seen a yellow Violet.
Thats most unusual,and quite beautiful.
Excellent exposure and colour saturation here.
I've just had a lovely afternoon gardening as it happens, planting my cornflowers, poppies, clary sage, viscaria, crysanthemums and a few other flowers for my summer beds.
Looking forward to getting out and finding a few wildflowers to photograph when the weather improves, especially the alpine ones.

Hy Ivan
Very, very sharp. Excellent details. I like it very much. But I will dissapoint you, this species is "common" in Romania, in Carpathians Mountains. I found it often in Ceahlau, near the turistic path.
Regards, Oana

Hi Ivan. What a beautiful little yellow Violet. Congrats on a first on TN. You have captured it with fine detail and bright colours. all set of in a good looking frame. TFS.

Have a good weekend.

Hello Ivan,

A good, sharp capture of these pretty flowers. I couldn't help thinking that it resembled a family photograph: mother, father and baby. Good dof to abstract them from the b/g.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

merhaba Ivan
sorry for my delay. Nowadays, I am in TN midnight usually, after university facilites.
Your flower shots great as much as birds and other animals. I try to several time yellow flowered plants (I am not sure their species, I think those from Medicago or similar genera). I couldnt manage very well exposure on plain yellow parts. But your shot great with exposure, colors, sharp focus. Nicely composed it behind ferns in BG. Thanks for sharing, have a nice weekend my friend

Hello Ivan. It is not easy capturing this fragile yellow petals. I always find them easily OE. The focus and framing is very good and the metering is flawless. Light and shadow are very well managed with your well written note, as always. Regards. Jusni

Hello Ivan,

This tiny flowers look so unimportant from the height of a men but as soon as you go down to theyr level flowers change in small jewels. You have shown this very well in your image. Flowers can be sharply seen as well as the delicate black pattern from petais.

Thank you for sharing,

Hello Ivan,
A very fine flowershot. I like the way you composed the picture, like a little Flower-family with the two close flowers over a little button, like a little baby.
The plant looks quite alike our wood Violets.
A beautiful souvenir of summertime
Have a nice weekend

Ciao Ivan, simple and lovely composition with a splendid couple of yellow Violet, good details and wonderful sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio
