[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It's too dark for photography so i delved into my archives.
This was taken from my trip to the Swedish Mountains in July 2008.

Though the main subject is the Elk (the N. American subspecies is called Moose), I also want to show a typical Scandinavian sub-alpine habitat. This is shown in the WORKSHOP uncropped original.
Swedish name: Älg
As soon as this young bull elk saw me taking this shot at a distance of about 150 meters (164 yards), he ran away in his awkward, but surprisingly swift, way. It was taken against the sun.

This young bull Elk (Alces alces) is sprouting new horns that grow quickly during the summer and when fully developed they harden and the skin, or velvet peels off in an itchy process. Old bulls have large and heavy horns that are shed after rutting in the winter.
Elks are often found on bogs where they feed on the surrounding vegetation as well as water plants.
In Sweden the Elk is not allowed to be hunted in the large national parks of the North, where they grow large with over 12 tags to the horns.

This was taken in a nature reserve at an altitude of about 500 meters (1640 ft). It became a nature reserve as a result of protests by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation when the land-owner began to clear the primary forest. The high price of timber is still threatening the remaining vestiges of primary sub-alpine forests and their unique biodiversity.

This is bog land surrounding a small lake. The vegetation consists of dwarf sallow, dwarf birch, cloudberry and various grasses. There are few but special species of butterfly here.

Hello Ivan,
Very nice photo in difficult light conditions. But the sharpness and details are very good. The moose is a bit dark (of course). Fantastic surroundings with a good DOF. Taken from an ideal POV and in an excellent composition.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Ivan,
Very nice photo, great composition with this Elk! TFS!

Hello Ivan,
A photo nicely composed and obviously whith very natural elements.

Being taken against light, has not adversely affected. By contrast, the depth and detail are very good in every way. I see a slight excess of gamma brightness, but nothing that affects the result.

PS: I like very te WS Also! great!

Thanks for the note on the animal and how the picture was taken.

Hi Ivan,
A very atmospheric photo. I particuarly like the way the light is bouncing off of the grasses and flowers. However, I am ashamed to say that I did not know that Elks are found in Europe, so I have learnt something today!
regards,
John.

Ciao Ivan. Good capture in a nice compo and soft light/colours. Good space's management.

hello Ivan

i love both photos, this one and the one in the WS, you did
very well to show a typical Scandinavian sub-alpine habitat,
this is another kind of photographys that i love, wild animals
birds shot from far but to show them with their habitat,
an excellent photo of the young Bull Elk with his beautiful eye-contact,

TFS

Surely a fine specimen within a beautiful environment Ivan, I believe a slight overexposure would exhibit the details of the Elk better, but seems the lighting was very poor at the time of photography. Would like to try a WS on it my friend, but presently I'm trying to recuperate from a terrible cold and can't keep my head down too long! Still a very good candid shot, thanks for sharing it indeed!
Cheers,
Mehmet

Ciao Ivan, splendid light on beautiful elk, nice composition with wonderful natural ambientation, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Hej Dostum Ivan,

TFS and have a nice and warm WE!
Cheers,

Bayram

Hello Ivan!

Fantastic reminder of hot, summer days. Elk looks great, but rest of your photo is also very good. I especially like composition with three stripes of bright flowers, grass and blue water. Excellent work.

Hi Ivan,

In spite of the lighting conditions and the reluctance of the elk to cooperate with you this is a fine picture. I love seeing the natural habitat. It is so unlike where I live. Pose, colors and composition are wonderful.

merhaba Ivan dostum,
Alces alces is very beautiful deer species. I'd like to see in nature too. You are lucky to see it and to capture its young bull. It gave a great pose on grassland near water. eyes contact, POV and composition very nice. focus and colors also nice. good notes as always. Thanks for sharing this beauty.
best regards & god natt,

Hi Argus!

That's why archives are made! And I'm glad you have delved them and chosen this impressive animal that you have put on stage so well. Indeed, it must be a formidable encounter and the subtle composition of your picture allows the viewer to image the size of this Elk. Your notes are very interesting and instructive, too!

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Argus,
återigen ger oss en utmärkt fånga och mycket intressant.
Mycket intressant och bra utformning av ämnet bild. Uppspelning topp.
En trevlig söndag,
Adrian

Ivan,

well seen and taken, in N. America we would call this a Moose.

Hello again Ivan, what a cute animal and beautiful landscape shot. DOF is amazing here and nicely composed.
TFS and regards,
Deniz

Hello Ivan,
This is an excellent capture of young bull Elk with perefct details, sharpness & POV. The luminosity & composition are grand. It stands out well against the faded background. TFS
Regards-Subhash

Hi Ivan,
Even against the Sun, beautiful light management and composition, as well as sharpness. Yes, the elk became a bit underexposured, but it was unavoidable. WS photo's great, too, or even a bit better, I mean I like its warmer color tones more. But this one's also a pleasant image generally. Great personal note as always from You. Tfs.
Friendly regards, László
