Hello my Friends!
Today something really special and - I believe - also interesting. A small butterfly photographed... far North from the border of Swedish Polar Circle!!! :>

This is (if my ID is correct) Idas Blue - Plebeius (Plebeius) idas lapponicus (Linnaeus, 1761) (Lycaenidae). This subspecies is endemic to Scandinavia, but the species in general is known from great part of Europe, Turkey, Middle East, Asia and even from America, where it forms at least 9-10 subspecies often restricted to small areas.

Flight period: univoltine of bivoltine, according to locality and altitude (June-August or May-June + July-August).

Habitat: bushy and grassy places.

Life history: hibernates as ovum. Larvae are strongly myrmecophilous and live and pupate in ant's nest (Lasius niger and Formica species).

Caterpillars' host plants: Cytisus vulgaris, Genistra pilosa, Lotus corniculatus, Calluna vulgaris.

Picture was taken during exploring Stora Sjofallet National Park.

And last, but not least, I would like to dedicate this interesting and cute butterfly to our very good TN Friends from Sweden and great nature lovers - Ulla (uleko) and Ivan (Argus) :>

Thanks a lot Radomir!
Yes the Idas Blue is to be found well north of the Arctic Circle as ssp lapponica and you have taken a fine macro macro to show its closed wings on the attractive flowers of Astragalus alpinus with excellent sharpness and lighting.
Thanks again my friend,
all the best,
Ivan

Czesc Radek!

Hello Radomir,
Thanks so much for your kind dedication! This is a beautiful capture of the northern subspecies of Idas blue from far up north!! I like your POV and the pretty flower it has settled on. Great details and natural colours too. I've never been that far up north myself, it must be fantastic if the weather is right!!

Hi Radomir,
perfect details and very attractive deep colours- Impressingly well made documentation of P. idas lapponicus. Your trip must have been a very awarding expedition to Scandinavia reminding me of C. Linnaeus' journey to Lapponia in 1732. Very nice dedication to our dear TN friends from Sweden, too.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter
