[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One of the nice aspects of TN is that members sometimes arrange to meet, especially if they live in the same country. Ralf (Ralfsworld) wondered that as he was travelling south from Stockholm, if we could meet in Scania.

We met at a wetland nature reserve famous for its Black-tailed Godwits. The Godwits were not that obliging but we happened to across a family of Lapwings whose chicks had wandered close to the footpath.

The mother was on the ground, keeping watch at a distance of about 15 meters, while the father was wheeling and diving in the air calling 'peee..witt' all the time as a warning for us not to come too close to the chicks. When we saw a chick about 6 meters away I took a shot that I put in the WORKSHOP.

Lapwings (Vanellus vanellus) are typical marsh and wet meadow birds that are threatened by land drainage and modern agriculture, but they are still widespread and common in most of Europe. The male is more brightly coloured than the female.

This shot shows the russet-coloured vent area and the red legs. He displays his vent when courting.

ISO 200
Camera hand-held at an estimated distance of about 10 meters.
Image cropped by about 50%
After size reduction it was treated for a 25% shadow reduction, sharpened and treated for noise using Neat Image.

Thanks to Ralf for his pleasant company!

Hi Ivan
a very fine inflight shot with good good details and exposure.
It's not easy to catch a Lapwing in the air but you manage great.
Beautiful work.

Fick du hjälpa Ralf att bära hans nya (k)anon,

Hi Ivan,
Not an easy task to catch a bird in flight and you have done well with both its pose and also the detail and texture of its outspread wings. The light has illuminated it chest in good contrast to the shadows under its wings.I liked your note and workshop....I also enjoyed getting together with some TE (not yet TN) members not so long back.Nice to see you....TFS.
Regards, David

Fantastic shot Ivan, very good eye contact and with a wonderful blue sky for the BG.
And the chick looks very smart too.

TFS & Cheers

Hi Ivan,
Excellent inflight capture with nice details.

Hola Iván,
Preciosa toma, excelente nitidez y buen contraste con el fondo. Saludos
José Ramón

Dear Ivan,
you did extremely well here, the shot is interesting because of the rare view, the good light despite the upward angle, the high sharpness (a hand held shot, you must be a real cool sharpshooter) and the appropriate PS treatment. Well done!
My compliments to you. best regards,

Hej Ivan
It was pleasure to meet you and Ulla :)
I remember this guy flying a round and protecting little one (workshop). You did grat work here capturing this bird in action. Details and colours work well with bue BG.

... Jag fick en del nya fĺglar pĺ Öland :) som jag kommer att presentera här pĺ TN... Hälsa Ulla :)
p.s. Jag ĺterkommer med mer info om hemsidan.

Hi Ivan,
Beautiful image of the lapwing in fly, is "freezed" perfectly in the air.
We have a noisy species in South America known as a tero or quero-quero (Vanellus chilensis) by its sing resemblance. They has a similar behavior but if you approach too much to the nest makes some attacks with spurs it has in the wings. You can see them in S. America galleries or in mine.
Best regards
