Received yesterday afternoon a new camera and could not wait to try it out, went on an evening walk to Alhagen and found a family whoopers swimming in a small stream and they were quite coorporative,so I made a couple of shots and the first impressions of my new toy were great

The family shown existed of 6 cygnets, mum and dad, when I returned ,the family landed and all 6 cygnets were sleeping/hidden under mums wings, while dad was on guard, hope you like it and tfw.

Whooper swans pair for life, and their cygnets stay with them all winter; they are sometimes joined by offspring from previous years. Their preferred breeding habitat is wetland, but semi-domesticated birds will build a nest anywhere close to water. Both the male and female help build the nest, and the male will stand guard over the nest while the female incubates. The female will usually lay 4-7 eggs. The cygnets hatch after about 36 days and have a grey or brown plumage. The cygnets can fly at an age of 120 to 150 days.

Hello Paul
This bird came in my country only in winter, thanks for sharing with its cygnets.

Hi Paul,

A good shot, which shows your new camera off well. Fine focus, sharpness and colours. I like the composition and colours. I hope that you have plenty more shots like this with your new camera. I may not have cropped quite so tight but that is just personal taste.

Regards Bill.

Hello Paul,
This is a brilliant capture of the Whooper, not as commonly seen with its young as the Mute Swan! I love the way she's watching you with the young ones all around her! Excellent focus and details and beautiful colours in this very fine composition.
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hallo Paul,
Erg mooi!

Hi Paul,

Don't blame you for rushing out to try your new camera. It passed the test with this great shot. I don't think I have seen a Whopper Swan before - just beautiful with that long, long neck. The babies are adorable as they stay close to their mom. Beautiful family picture with lovely colors and excellent details. They stand out very well against the darker background.
