As it is 14 Celsius below freezing and the lighting is limited, here is another image from the late spring.

Common Blue male (Polyommatus icarus)

Swedish name: Puktörneblĺvinge, meaning ‘Rest Harrow Blue’. Rest harrow is one of its leguminous larval host plants

This species is one of the most common blue butterflies in most of Europe.
As it has been posted countless times on TN there is no need to say much about this species except what just this image shows.

This fresh specimen shows unusually large black spots along the border of the hindwings. This is an example of one of the many variable forms this species has. The normal form has no black spots on the upper surface of the wings at all.

Like with most blue colours of butterflies the colour is not produced by pigment but the construction of the wing scales that reflect the blue end of the spectrum. The blue nuance varies according to the viewing angle.

This was taken in a marshy nature reserve known for its orchids and stands of Primula farinosa, the flowers of which have attracted this butterfly.

I took this with the camera hand-held at a distance of about 1.8 meters, which meant that the image was moderately cropped. After size reduction the image was selectively sharpened.

Hi Ivan,
a beautiful blue on excellent purple. the flower and the butterfly are excellently presented.
I like the shine and the light on the body. the details and the beauty is superbs.
Very pleasant and impressive shot.

Hallo Ivan
This is truly gorgeous. Not only the lovely butterfly, but the flowers as well. The image as a whole has a festivity that surrounds it. The Common Blue with its three colours in the wings is really striking. It is a very stylish butterfly, it is perfectly shaped and formed and the powder blue colour is just pretty and very eye-catching. In spite of limited light your camerawork is excellent. I like this image a lot, and could not pass it by without adding it to my personal favourites. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

merhaba Ivan dostum
