Crane - Grus grus

Autumn is here and thousands of Cranes have arrived here to rest on their way south from their breeding grounds up north. After over-wintering in the south of France and Spain they’ll return here at the end of April – early May.

They nest in isolated bog and marshy areas in mostly northern Scandinavia but some nest as far south as Scania. On their way they rest in flocks and can cause damage to crops, which is why grain and potatoes are set out at popular resting areas. This also attracts many enthusiastic spectators.

This was captured from a distance of about 12 metres. It has been cropped and sharpened.

Hello Ulla,
I couldn't bring nearer that to take such photo. Perfectly visible colours and details plumage. Nice green BG. I think that you left too little room around the bird.
Regards, Pawel

You have some lovely birds there, Ulla!
I love the POV you've chosen, which brings out the details of the entire bird so well.
The grass, both in the FG and the BG frame the crame wonderfully!
Thanks and cheers!

Hello Ulla,
I almost missed it..on the thumbnail it looks quite discreet this crane. It must be spectacular to see thousands of these birds resting on the ground. We don't see them often here. They have an amazing little head compared to their body..and a funny little red cap. Well taken and presented shot with adequate vertical framing.
Thanks a lot.
Have a nice evening
Amitiés
Anne

Hello Ulla,
never seen this specie before. Very special and unique crane for me.
well composed with green grass as the background. i like the red tip on the head.
Good top view for me to look and scrutinize the features of this bird.
Thanks for sharing something new here.

Hy Ulla

For me, the cranes are almost mythical creatures, as I heard them, are stories about them, but I have not seen any time. I really like your picture, which shows a bird standing with its characteristic shape.

Kind regards,
Oana

Nice that you were able to get so close in Ulla. Still the summer trekker in you finds these isolated spots eh?
Bob

Hello Ulla,
What a beautiful bird Ulla, the greys are wonderful. This image has been cropped to a fine composition and the sharp focus leaves us with excellent detail. Thank you Ulla.
Rick

Thanks for sharing this good looking crane that I have never seen before, Ulla. It is interesting that they landed for a while on our ground on their way to some other places and we have that too around my place. The capture is beautiful and you have perfected the focus and framing beautifully with this little gem and thanks for sharing.
Kind regards - Jusni
