Porcelain mushroomOudemansiélla múcida

The other day we found this fungus on a decaying Beech tree that had fallen across a small stream in a nature reserve inland. There were several clumps in different stages of maturity distributed on the trunk and branches. I particularly liked these little ones growing downwards under the trunk! I’ve posted a picture of mature specimens in the WORKSHOP.

This is an invasive species that contains a fungicide that prevents the invasion of other fungi. As the name implies it looks very much like fine porcelain. It is a species commonly found in the south of Sweden.

This was taken from a distance of 1 metre using flash as it was very dark in the woods. It has been cropped slightly and sharpened.

Hi Ulla, the beautiful effect porcelain is increased by the drop on these mushrooms and by the light reflections.Very perfect way to capture this beautifull and strange specie,it's a first time for my eyes, great sharpness and white balance too. Thanks for share, have a nice day,LUCIANO.

Wow, these are the most beautiful Mushrooms I have ever seen, Ulla!
I specially like drops of water suspended from some of them. I would like to call them 'Pearl Mushrooms'.
It is a very difficult shot which you have managed with extraordinary control, making sure we miss none of the details on the rotting wood too.
Thanks and regards.

Bonjour Ulla,
They really shine like porcelaine. Amazing! The picture looks like from out of space..
I will have a look to our Birch trees to see if eventually there are some of these fungis around.
Original posting!
Kind regards

Hello Ulla, wonnderful shot of these interesting mushrooms. Nice composition.
TFS and regards,

Easy to see why it is named such, I also think the flash helped bring out the quality of the name. As always, a good lesson in nature.
Cheerful regards

How cool, they really do like porcelain Ulla..go figure ;-]
Looks like excellent use of your flash to me - perfect.
Great interest too. I especially like the dark environment and various sizes I see.
Well done & have a great weekend!

Saludos: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Ulla,
Great pair of photos (I also like the WS) which perfectly shows the reason of the English name of the species (Hungarian name refers to the ring around the stem, which is absent in the closed relationship). It's very hard to focus on such gloomy surface, but you solved the problem very well. Wonderful image. Congrats and tfs.
Friendly regards, László

Hi Ulla. These shiny buttons look really good attached to that trunk. You have done really well with the flash as my success work with flash on my G7 is minimal. Great find by the beach and presented in fine pov. Thanks for sharing and have a very nice day. Regards - Jusni
