Bitter Oyster - Panellus stipticus

This is also known as the astringent panus, the luminescent panellus, or the stiptic fungus. It is a species of fungus in the Mycenaceae family. A common and widely distributed species that is found in Asia, Australasia, Europe, and North America, where it grows in groups or dense overlapping clusters on logs, stumps, and trunks of deciduous trees, especially beech, oak, and birch.

During the development of the fruit bodies, the mushrooms start out as tiny white knobs, which, over a period of one to three months, develop into fan- or kidney-shaped caps that measure up to 3 cm (1.2 in) broad. The caps are orange-yellow to brownish, and attached to the decaying wood by short stubby stalks that are connected off-center or on the side of the caps. (Another view in the WORKSHOP!)

The Swedish name is ‘Epĺlettsvamp’.

Very pretty sight Ulla, that row of mushrooms among green land mosses. They also do look like a row of oysters! THanks for sharing this fine image my friend.

The details and colors of the bitter oystee nushrooms are well captured. Your aperture is well chosen to keep all in focus too. Great POV! I also captured one Oyster mushroom on the chesnut tree in Richmond but i could not find its exact id yet!

Amazing how many different species of fungis we can see on this site...very often they have too a very special common name, like this one.
Nicely taken in a bed of moss which gives the beautiful and natural contrast to the fungis. Natural and fine shot.

Hi Ulla,

This is a very difficult species to photograph well. You almost completely solved the problem, I mean sharpness in the focal area is great and colors are nice. A pity that "focused area" wasn't placed on the closest square centimeters (to your position), because the nearer parts of the bunch became a bit soft and oof. However, this is the only, by my opinion mistake on the whole image, so it deserves my dark green smiley yet. Tfs, and build the theme further.
