Scoparia arundinata

This is a moth found in dry grassy areas and on sand dunes where the larva live on roots under the ground surface. It has a wing span of 20 mm.

As I was going to capture this moth I noticed the Ant approaching and here it’s gone to attack nibbling at the leg of the moth.

This macro was captured from a distance of 20 cm with the camera hadheld. It has been cropped and sharpened.

Preciosos colores y buen enfoque. El conjunto se sale de lo "normal"
con esta curiosa pareja Lepidóptero-hormiga.
Un abrazo Ulla: Josep Ignasi.

nice moment to take bouth on picture

Well, this instance is part of the living nature Ulla, the mandibles of that ant will surely hurt the moth (BTW, is that a leg of the moth, or something else?), but it will cope with five sound legs! Good capture with behaviourial implications my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hello Ulla,
Very interesting documentary shot.
Ants can be quite uncomfortable for other insects. Like on your shot I have observed the same scene with bumblebees for example. And the little moth is also not a very common guest on TN. Thanks for this original posting.
Amitiés
Anne

A dramatic situation well captured, Ulla.
The Moth seems to be unaware of the presence of an Ant wanting to have a nibble at its leg.
The POV gives a fine view of both the subjects on a broad green leaf.
Thanks and regards.
