Hi all!

The weather forecast anounced that the upper limit of the fog would be at 1500m. Knowing that the Schüpfenfluh is a bit higher and offers spectacular winter sceneries when the "Bise" - a cold and strong wind coming from E/NE - blows, I called Dieter (meyerd) and asked him if he would accompany me for a short walk with the snowshoes in the sun. He agreed and we drove to the Wasserscheide that is at 1580m, but there we were still sitting in the fog.

Well, despite of a gentle snowfall, very low temperatures and the lack of sun we started for our hiking tour and were delighted by the majestic view the frozen and snow covered trees offered to us. Millions of crystals, one more beautiful than the other!

It was so peaceful up there, the atmosphere was serene and we were happy to be together in that beautiful nature. We both were not sure if the absence of direct sunlight would allow us to take nice pictures. But I felt the strong presence of light because the layer of fog above us was quite thin and the snow captured and reflected the light very well.

Here is, from my point of view, one the many delightful impressions of our common experience. It's a very pleasant surprise to me.

About the picture: Taken in RAW, basic corrections in Camera RAW like levels, saturation and sharpness. The import to PS, tiny level correction.

Kind regards

Hello markus,
A fine wintery capture!
I like the way you found how the snow gathered on the rough surfaces of the young tree stems. The exposure is perfect and the composition very nice.
This is the kind of scene I expect to see tomorrow as it is snowing now but I shall not try to repeat this artistry as you were first!
Thanks and best regards,

bonjour Markus

Hello Markus,
Very beautiful photo in brown and white. Only two colours give this photo a special atmosphere. Great POV and choice of composition. The depth on the left side in the photo is very attractive and gives an idea of space.
Here it's freezing, still not snowing. Maybe we can ice skating in a few days:-)

Hi Markus.Well we can see winter is now with you . I like the way the snow is hugging the tree trunks. It looks like it has come from every direction. This hasa nice compostion . We dont often get this much snow in Southern England. Well taken TFs.

Lieber Markus,
Hasenspuren in Deinem Bild!

Hello dear Markus,
Since I never saw on live, I can just say what a beauty scenery.
I liked the soft contrast between the dark brown woods and white snow.
Wonderful pic with high technical management of the camera MF.
Thanks for posting and see you on TN.
Best wishes,

Hi Markus,

You must have had a wonderful hike in the winter wonderland. Seeing the snow through your eyes is indeed an amazing experience. Your artistic presentation is very beautiful and an absolute delight.

The pristine and undisturbed snow in this picture has an electrifying effect on me, Markus.
It takes me back to the years gone by -- more than half a century, indeed. I have clear memories of such snowy views I have seen in my younger days spent in my valley in the Himalayas.
Your correct judgement of light has resulted into a very fine picture of these snow covered trees.
Thanks for sharing this lovely aspect of nature.

Hi Markus,

In my eyes, this is a true work of nature art! Everything about the photo is excellent. I like the snow-covered branches of the trees. The composition is stunning.
TFS and have a nice day!

Ciao Markus,
Grazie e complimenti
Buona giornata

Hello Markus,
I'm glad to say that we too have had several cm of snow now and suddenly the light has returned!! This is a very beautiful observation of a wintery forest scene with freshly fallen snow covering the ground, trunks and branches. Technically excellent in all respects.
Many thanks and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Markus,
Simply a beautiful image, I love it, even if it's too cold for me. I have a cup of hot tea with me looking at this. Beautiful composition. Great sharpness and clarity, pristine and pure fresh snow, no foot prints. Clean and natural. Love the contrast between the white snow and the dark tree trunk, Excellent work. thanks

ciao Markus!
a magical view that winter with its white blanket is always amazing
pleasant story of the day spent with our friend Dietrich

have great sunday sERGIO

Hallo Markus
Time is rather limited, thus a very short note. I am sure this was indeed a lovely surprise and that you and Dietrich enjoyed every minute of it. How fortunate you are to call a friend to join you to take some photographs and return with breathtaking scenes like this one? I appreciate you for sharing these scenes that I won't be able to see in real life (Well not in the next few years). With this picture you bring Christmas to my doorstep. I can say so much more, and although words are less than normal, appreciation is plenty. Best regards.

Hi Markus,

i can almost sense the muffled silence in this shot....beautiful, and well exposed too, well done.
A very merry christmas to you and your family.

Hi Markus,
This photo has a very high dose of cozyness. It feels like a warm blanket on a cold day. You are always so good in capturing emotion in a landscape, and this certainly has tons of emotion. I like the tight crop and the clean look of the composition. The details of these little dots of snow sticking on the tree are magnificent.

Bonsoir Markus.

A bientôt.

Hi Markus,
the patterns formed by the ice is lively and so haphazard but yet beautiful and systematic.
What nature offers always perfect and attract the eyes very much. Something that occurs that could not be described objectively. Only the beauty and appreciation could be expressed. Just like this capture...so smoothly composed in natural setting.

Hallo Markus,

I don't know why, but this is the 1st time we meet here on TN (surely not the last, I believe). Your pic is a fantastic presentation of a snowy world, as Sabine (wishnugaruda) rightly said, "winter wonderland". Very effective and pleasant composition, superb sharpness and above all, mysterious atmosphere. A photo to be proud of. Bravo.

The image also reflects my mood today morning: yesterday it started to snow quite heavily here, and there's already ca. 20 centimeters on the streets for today. Perfect weather conditions to try something like this wunderschön image. Tfs.

Best regards from Hungary, László

Hi Markus!

Hard to catch up what I missed in a long time away from TN, but it's certanly nice to see you back! Starting at your winter shots I can tell you kept your way of seeing for sure, showing snow so wonderfully. I'll take a look at your recent shots too later on..

Have a nice day,

hello Markus
this is one of the best snowy landscape shot I have seen in this winter. It reminds me my childhood in Black Sea, with green forests. But now, I live in Central Anatolia, with steppic areas. I dont see such a nice scene here. many thanks for sharing this beauty.
photographically, it is great. exposure-white balance and composition superb as like POV and colors. TFS
best wishes
