Hi all!

We usually attribute white to the main colours of winter, maybe completed by grey and blue. We instinctively think at snow, ice and cloudy skies or fog.

But the winter can appear in delightfully coloured dresses, also when ice and icy surfaces are concerned. Here, at the border of the river Ärgera, a lot of stones are covered with moss and algae. Even in winter, when there's less water in the river, its level changes during the day. This allows the cold to act as an artist and to create beautiful shapes and patterns and to highlight a great variety of colour tones.

Taken in RAW, basic level corrections in Camera Raw before the import in PS; level corrections, attenuation of the bright tones, saturation (little) and sharpness.

Kind regards

Markus

bonjour markus

Hello Markus,
During a lot of years we were travelling every summer to Switzerland. We have enjoyed the beauty of your country during the numberless walks through the mountains. Wallis and Berner Oberland were our favourite regions. And indeed we enjoyed the details in the landscape.
And that's what I admire in your brilliant photos, such as this one. What a fantastic colours and composition! Thanks.
Regards,
Peter

Hello Markus,
Ötzi has nothing on you! You are the master Iceman!
The shape, colours and composition of these ice crystals are a joy to view, a wonderful way of depicting the transition from autumn to winter.
Great to see and thank you!
Kind regards,
Ivan

Lieber Markus,

Dieter

Hi Markus,

What a beautiful abstract painting this is. You call cold the artist - in my opinion it is you who is the artist. You have the wonderful ability to see the beauty in what most of us would overlook. Colors, details, and textures are just magnificent. Thank you for allowing me to see through your eyes.

Jane

Gee... all those straight lines and angles make this a dynamic abstract composition. The colors and textures are super also. Good observation and nicely captured...

I wonder if a frame other than stark black and white might work also. It is the the high contrast between the black and the white that draws me away from your photo. It's probably just my eyes and personal opinion. It is the same thing I was trying to convey in my last critique. I tried a workshop to show what I mean. I basically eliminated the white.

The crystalline look is very enchanting...I am fond of some leaded crystal which ice can mimic at times...mostly in cobalt-alike blue and such but this one is very different! Love it!

This is wonderful, Markus... Such an original piece. : )
Intriguing composition with the striated ice sheaths.
The lighting is perfect, exposing the translucence of the ice AND the rich colors of the vegetation.
A real work of art.
TFS. : )

Very nice arrangement of ice and vegetation, Markus.
Seen with an artist's eye and composed with outstanding technical skill.
I like the colours of winter here and agree with you that winter is not altogether dull.
TFS and regards.

Hello Markus,

This is a very interesting shot of the leaves covered in thick frost/ice. It actually gave me the chills ;-). This is a very good abstract picture Markus. The details are splindid along with the patterns and cracks and lines on the frost. Excellent lighting, sharpness and focusing. This is a well composed shot with a nice POV. Well Done. TFS.

Pearl.

Hi Markus
It is probably the best shot in your art-nature serie. Great varity of texture and colors, perfect realisation of subject. Good sharpness. Nothing to critique

Hallo Markus,

Wow Markus, these just get better and better! This shot shows how at home you are in the ice and snow...amazing display of natures building and design. The leaf in the top right really helps keep it in context...and the details are excellent. Great work as ever my friend.

Hi Markus

Another very interesting photo from you and another abstract view of the nature that allows us to explore our imagination and to just relax looking at a photo for minutes!
I love the perfectly straight lines here - they are geometrically impeccable and i love seeing that in nature.
I also like that you have a leaf in the corner of the frame - which in turn also have its straight lines to show off.
All these textures and small details make us look closely when we pass through a park or in a forest near some elements we would normally exclude.
Great job and thanks for this!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

This is just beautiful, Markus!
A montage of different colours and textures, skilfully composed into a photograph!
Nothing is better than Nature for beauty!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Markus,
Wonderful image, I like it a lot.
I think the stones, moss & algae have brought in some interesting color & depth, transforming the shot..It's magic! :)
Very well done,
Howard

Hi Markus,
thanks for the response on my another bird shot :) . Yes, as far as what I did during the shooting, i beieve it is Ok. Now when Ivan Kruys describe to me the possibilities, I think the puzzle is getting into its place. i dont blame the apparatus but I think i know now. Thanks youre one of the contributors to my solving the puzzle. Thanks.
My conscience still want me to upload it.
I like the colours of crystals. So this one make me like it very much. Other than that I can explain. It is just simply very attractive to me.Thanks.

Foozi

Hallo Markus,
Peter

Dear Markus,
This is amazing shot with excellent details, sharpness, tones of colors & a perfect abstract to highlight the winter in most glorified way. I appreciate your crisp notes. TFS.

Next impressive ice photo from you. Great close-up and sharpness, and intersting 'lined' forms of ice of course. Good eye, congrats,
