[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In alpine forests one can find several species of metallic Chrysomelidae beetles like this one. The pecularity of the species shown here is the rich colour spectrum of the elytrae. Identification is not easy because there are several similar species which furthermore show large variability in colour pattern. So, I did not decide up to now on the identity.

Oreina speciosa is a suggestion.

Swiss Alps, Wallis (Valais), Jungtal, vicinity of Jungu, about 2000 m

Hi Peter,

You simply Rock. Fairy Tale Photography. :)

Hy Peter
I had also difficulties this summer to take a picture to such creatures. You did very well, it is a very sharp imagine of this insect.

Hi Peter!
You are right, here we have a true rainbow on the chrysomelid beetle elytrae. Anyway, the DOF and details are very good, what is not easy to keep in case of convex and metallic beetle.
Unfortunatelly I can not help with ID but you can try to do it with this page :> There are two species similar to yours - Oreina alpestris (Schummel, 1844) and suggested by you (which as for me is much more similar).
Best regards from Lodz,

Hello Peter,
Superb view of this lovely little Beetle that you've captured in a perfect pose at the edge of a leaf. Excellent exposure showing details very sharply - I like especially the clear view of the legs and the metallic colours are wonderful. A beautiful composition too.
Many thanks and best wishes, Ulla
