Les Follatères:
Anne (anel) encouraged me to show some of my own harvest during our recent excursion in Valais (see "map" for location). Here is an 8 mm long Ant beetle (Coleoptera; Cleridae; Thanasimus formicarius (L.); Ameisen-Buntkäfer; le Clairon des fourmis). They nervously run around on freshly felled resin wood. Their food is bark beetles; they may find them by their odor; at least Ant beetles get sometimes caught in pheromone traps for bark beetles. Ant beetles are found in almost the entire Palearctic region.

ID: easy for once, uff! The only other Thanasimus species in our region, T. rufipes has (as the latin name suggests) red legs.

Hello Dietrich,
Nice to see this species in macro format!
Your skills in macro photography have resulted in fine sharpness and good use of flash without much reflection so that this Thanasimus species is well portrayed from the dorsal POV.
Thank you and best regards!
Ivan

Lieber Dieter,
Anne

A very nice shot of this interesting mimic. Nicely detailed, and good exposure. A very interesting-looking insect too.

Thanks,
John

Hola Dietrich,
