Lesser known backyard inhabitants:

Hello all, I'm back again on TN after a pause. The receptionist on the Malva sylvestris flower is a bee-hunting digger wasp (Hymenoptera; Crabronidae; Cerceris rybyensis; Bienenjagende Knotenwespe). It's 10-12 mm in size. I've shown it before.

From Wikipedia: The genus Cerceris consists of over 1000 described species (in Switzerland about 10) of solitary, predatory wasps, which prey on bees or beetles. The adult females dig tunnels in the ground for nesting. The larvae are carnivorous; females hunt for prey on which to lays their eggs, supplying the larvae with paralyzed, living food when they emerge.

ID: A good place to look for ID in Europe: www.rutkies.de/insekten.htm. The genus Cerceris is recognizable for the "knot", the knobbly abdominal segment. The wasps have a rough surface. The species C. rybyensis can be told by the black and yellow pattern; on the third abdominal segment the black forms an arrow point in posterior direction.

Hi Dietrich,

Good detail and clarity on the wasp. It stands out well from the petal. Good exposure and Dof.

Hello Dietrich,
A superb macro of this bee parasitoid Digger Wasp, a species that I haven't seen in Sweden. All technical aspects of this image are first class and the composition on the Malva flower petal pleasing, as is the POV.
Thanks for sharing this fine illustration of the species,
Best regards,

Hello Dietrich!
Wonderful capture of very original insect species. I am not sure, but I believe that it is the first time I see it.
Do you think that it would be possible to put this picture to the PES gallery? :)
TFS and all the best my TN Friend!

Lieber Dietrich,

Hello Dietrich,

Very good close-up of the wasp. I like the way you used the DOF keeping all the insect in focus and rendering sharp details of it.

Thank you for sharing,

Hallo Dieter!

Hi, Dietrich.
Even without wasp your shot would be amazing but together pictured scene is looked brilliantly. All is fantastic in technical and esthetical aspects. Bravo. Great close-up.
