EREBIA MONTANA (de Prunner, 1798)

Marbled Ringlet

Thanks a lot to Ivan (Argus) and Peter (batu) for the right ID.

Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Satyrinae
Distribution:European Alps and Apennine
Flightime: July-September, one generation
Habitat: Lives mostly on altitude 1100-2500m on alpine meadows.

Source: Tolman/Lewington:Die tagfalter Europas und Nordwestafrikas, Stuttgart 1998

This female Erebia montana made a very short apparition flying very rapidely in front of me, I had no time to see what it was, and disappeared in the grass. I looked for it and found it hidden at the place I saw it go down. It wasn't easy to take the picture, but I think that we can see it pretty well.

Hello Anne,
A fine macro of what I think is a female E. montana, taken against the light with fine management. This is sharp where it matters and the effect of the light shining though the hair-scales on the head is great!
You did well to get this: so many Erebias are shy and difficult to photograph.
Thanks for sharing this one,
Bon soirée,

Hello Anne,
Lovely close view of this pretty 'Grayling'. The markings and colours of the underside of the wings are very clearly shown and I like the soft pastel background.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Anne
Very nice documentary shot of this Erebia. Despite the sharpness problems it is nicely composed with good OOF background
Best wishes

Bonsoir Anne,

P.S. Bin schon wieder total überarbeitet, sozusagen 'wallisreif'.

Hi Anne.
Perfectly composed shot of a nice butterfly. I like POV a lot too also as well as fine blurriness of the surroundings and smooth passage to sharp butterfly image. My compliments and kind regards.

Hello Anne,

This really is a fine capture of the butterfly. The details of its wings are very good and the back lighting around its head makes it appear to be in the spotlight.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Anne,
Well done to get even this image. These Satyrids can be very difficult when they insist on hiding low down in the grass and twigs. Good to see this unusual species. Thanks.

You used a slightly different method of imaging with this one..You have used sharpness as opposed some softer tones in flora perch and in hence the butterfly. Nothing wrong with diversity Anne, You are becoming quite well known around your areas I suspect if not perhaps just your immediate family and here on TN?!

Hi Anne,
Wonderful shot of this beautiful butterfly in a fine pose. Very neat and sharp image with superb lighting effects. The colours and details on its wings look so beautiful and it stands out from the surrounding so well. Thanks for sharing this fine image.

Bonjour Anel,
Excellent and well detailed capture of this specie.
I like the same level POV, back-side light and the transparencies it produces.
Details on the head, eye and antennae are so sharp and very clear.
Good work and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
