This is a beautiful capture against blue sky, my favorite ones.
I like the bird's pose with the extended wings. A lot of details on the whites.
You pushed the exposure settings in the right way to achieve the 1/4000.

Veo que sabes utilizar muy bien tu Sigma jeje. Has sacado un gran partido a esa lente y para algunos que lo critican negativamente, tu demuestras como hacer una fotografía de primera línea. Excelente luz y contraste con un enfoque preciso. Acertado encuadre y ese 1/4000 hizo el resto.

This is really fantastic!
If I were to take an in-flight shot of a Black-headed Gull in winter plumage I would like to take one as good as this!
I cant fault this, but I especially like the wing position, the lighting and the blue sky.
Well done my friend: this is perfect!
Looking at the WS the detail shows that this bird is part of some research project as it it is not a normal ring marking.

At first i though the name came from some sort of plane...a glider or military place that looked like a seagull :)) But you perfect WS cleared it right up :))

A very beautiful in-flight from you - with a perfectly sharp subject and a magnificent blue sky behind it!
I always wondered: why does no-one use a small f-stop on in-flights. I've never taken such photos yet, but i would still like to know why you used a f/8 here :)
Anyway, the result is spot-on in all terms! Wonderful work!

You are being modest in saying that capturing flying birds is your weakness, Alexei.
This wonderful capture says a different story altogether; this is one of the most brilliant in-flight pictures of a bird I have ever seen on TN.
The Seagull looks stunningly beautiful against the azure sky.
Keep shooting birds in flight, my friend, and dispensing joy to us through them!

what a surprise, you an read the bird ring on your picture! The beautifully extended feathers allow the ID for me: it is a Laughing gull. For someone who claims to be unskilled in in-flight photography you did amazingly well with this bird. It is an area of photography which I too tend to shy away from. I do not have much opportunity for this (maybe because I have not really worked at it or searched for possible subjects or locations), but so far my few feeble attempts ended up in the dustbin. The only place where I could place one of my in-flight shots will be in the "Just missed shots" theme, but then again it probably would not fit there either and someone first has to create at theme called "Totally missed shots". That will work fine for me (chuckle).

This is a great composition with plenty of space for the gull to fly into and with its wing tips close to touching the horizontal borders it seems to suggest that this bird are going one way only and that is forwards. The lovely blue sky act as a superb BG and the exposure was absolutely spot-on showing lovely details and contrast of the bird's underwing and body.
