shame about your lens as it really did give you great looking results but then again shame on Sigma if all you get is 3-5 shots, not very good to say the least. My favorite lens has taken more than 40000 shots and shows no sign of giving up yet.The colour in this shot is gorgeous and the details rich with a great looking point of view.A fine photo to have uploaded to TN and thank you for sharing. Bob
sad to hear that your Sigma died, I broke the auto focus of TWO
Sigma 400mm when I was using the Sony A100;-(
The picture is well composed with beautiful light and colours.
The DOF i great and so are the sharpness and details.
Well done, my friend.

Alexei, sad story also amazing and I never expect that would be done hence my brand is Nikon that I'm useing since 30 years but never faced such problem.
No doubt it was a brilliant instrument also you did well compose and I like this, please place few flowers on my behalf on the box of your dead lens.

I do understand your feelings about loosing a lens. The photo you did looks great. The light you captured is very well suited with the subject as it brings out in a very nice way the pattern and texture of buterfly wings. Image is very sharp with the DOF well addapted to the subject. Last but not the least colors are excelent, very strong but looking absolutely natural.
Thank you for sharing,

Superb macro shot.
Beautiful colours, excellent DOF and details on the butterfly & flower, and lovely removed BG. I like the composition with the in focus insect and flower on the left and an OOF flower in the BG to the right.
Well done MF and TFS.

I'm very sorry for you that your favorite lens died.
It indeed is not the best of advertisement for the Sony company that these lenses do held this short.
Hopefully they will do something about it and give the owners of such lens a good replacement.
To the image: It's a real beauty with great saturated colors and most wonderful details.
Composition is excellent and has perfect sharpness and exposure.
Very well done. TFS!!!

I feel very much sorry for the lens. Ofcourse it was producing some beautiful images. Hope you have some backup. A very good capture with excellent details and a nice composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.
It is disheartening to know that your Sigma 70-300mm expired, Alexei. I too have one which I am using with my Nikon D200. Hopefully it does not conk out that early.
This shot from your expired lens is one step better than your previous one of this butterfly.
There is a bright and cheerful aspect to this picture. Maybe the other flower in the blurred BG accentuates that pleasant sensation.
Superb focus, great colours and thoughtful composition.
Thanks for sharing this lovely image and warm regards.

First reaction - another great, very colourful and sharp picture with fantastic light control. The second reaction - it is a pitty... It's a pitty that your lens were distoyed :( Especially now, at the beginning of new season...
But I really hope that you will not stop to take so great pictures! I really know that! :>
And once more - a come back to the picture. Looking for something to present on TN last days (as the weather in Lodz was not "perfect" last days, and no time for field photography), I found some photos of this species taken in Massandra, Crimea. I believe you know this beautiful place and you know delicious wines from this region ;)
So as you can see your Sigma lens brings good memories also for me :)
Many thanks for showing this fantastic picture and have a great Sunday!

A great capture taken when your Sigma was still in its prime. Pity the drive died, as this shows that the lenses were first class, but it takes more than good lenses to make a good tele-zoom lens!
The technical aspects are great and you used the optimum setting to achieve just the right DOF and excellent sharpness.
Thanks for shaing this fine image anf I hope you can get a replacement soon.

Sad to learn about your Sigma lens. By the way, I have already taken 3500 shots with my Tamron 200-500 and I bought it used (one year old). I hope it would withstand better. As far as I know, Sigma announced this year some HSM lenses with built-in motor (even for A-mount), including 70-200/2.8 Macro.

Hello Alexei. I am touched reading your note as I am using Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro for my insects and bird shots. My only discomfort is the lens turns during focusing which otherwise keeping me rather happy especially because of the price :-). This is a superb example of the lens sharpness especially when captured at around 200mm. Vivid sharpness and details keeping the depth shallow making this a superb composition. A sad ending to the lens and I'm sure a much better replacement is queuing for more stunning images from you here in TN. Regards. Jusni

Saluti dalla Sicilia,
Hello my friend
I am very sorry to hear about your favorite lens going down. After all I have seen a lot of very nice shots from that lens. I really hope you will find a replacement soon - and a good one for long lasting this time.
Very nice butterfly picture with excellent focus and lots of details in the butterfly. The colours look very nice and naturalon my monitor. the background is well blurred and the bg-flower is not disturbing the main object but more like contributing with nice colours. Very clever handling of the light/contrast with a nice glow in the yellow and red colours.
Personally I would crop out about half of the top above the bf-wing and about the sam in the left to get the butterfly more in the 1/3 composition - but that is of course a personal matter.
All over a very nice picture to look at and you did a great job - again:-).
