I know the picture is too centered. However, I cannot do anything. I cannot cut any (nice for my taste) object. I am ready to listen to your judgments (or censures :).

Watching the shots taken with my lovely Sigma lens I have decided to undertake some efforts to repair it. I live in a very interesting (not for me) country. There is only one repair service center in Ukraine – one of the largest by size Europe country with population of 48 million people. It is located in ... ... ... Moscow (Russia). This is a sole repair center for all CIS-countries.

I think my lens deserves my efforts. I wish to gift it second life. Can I resist to our public system, which does not think of the people at all? I believe, I cannot but for the sake of my lens, I shall try to do everything that I can.

Hi Alex,
i can see why you don't want to crop any of this, there is beautiful elements all around the frame. I would simply leave it as it is and not worry! Vivid, well saturated colour reproduction and excellent detail and clarity all round.
I wish you success in your efforts to get you lens fixed!
tfs and have a great weekend.

Hola amigo,
precioso trabajo,
color e iluminación perfectas,
hermoso ambiente...
bella mariposa y compo.
saludos Alexei.
**Lives in Ukrania and you must repair your sigma in Moscow, in which century we lived?

Hi Alexis!

I don't believe it is too centered, sometimes it is allowed to differ from the rules of third. In your case the diagonal line formed by the leaf, the butterfly and the flower is simply superb! The impact of the picture therefore does not suffer from the fact that the butterfly is centered.

Moreover, it's simply a beautiful picture!

Kind regards

Hi Alexei,
I think that the cropping is perfect as you really have a great focus on the butterfly, Great composition and POV
Well Done,
Nick :-)

Hi Alexei,
I think this image with the butterfly on center still has much off center compositional balance with the bright flowers on the top and right side and works very well. You acheived beautiful detail of the butterfly in this bright, summery, well lighted scene. Tfs Richard

What beautiful colours and details you've captured here!Very well done!

Hola alex, muy buen trabajo, una bonita composición con colores muy vivos y una luz adecuada. Un saludo

Hello Alexei
Very intersting spieces to shoot,
Perfect colors, exposure and POV.Superb shot my friend.

Uma exelente borboleta de qualidade cores e nitides ótima meus parabéns.

Hello Alexei,
This is technically pretty perfect but you question your central composition and ÍMHO rightly so. I have therefor made a composition suggestion based on the blurred BG on the right of the butterfly being no asset to the beauty of the image.
Thanks for sharing thi sfine image and i would appreciate your reation to my suggestion.
Best wishes, Ivan

Hello Alexei,
I think there are a lot of options in terms of compo here, simply 'cause this is a very good photograph.
Well done

Hi Alexei,

I always felt that some rules are made to be broken - once in a while. This is beautiful as is although Ivan's is lovely too. The beauty of the butterfly, the shiny leaves, and the bright flower add up to a gorgeous sight. A superb picture.

Hi Alexei,
What a beautiful composition. Here the rule of the thirds fails :). Nice details and a excellent fullframe shot. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Alexei,
I hope you can fix your lens that has produced so many lovely images! This is superb and I don't think you need to crop it at all, the background plays its part too! The butterfly is gorgeous and very nicely in focus. Details are sharp and colours beautiful. Brilliant!
TFS and have a nice weekend, Ulla

Hello Alexei,
To me this is more than perfect, should not have any judgment over it on the matter of centre, cos the leafs and flowers replace all!
the sharpness is amazing with nice colour and details in the shot, looks real indeed!

Hello Alexei,

Very nice composition. Excellent POV, DOF and sharpness. Wonderful light and colours. As far as the cropping is concerned, I had the same problem with my last picture of spider, I let it centered also.

Hi Alex, PERFECT!!! detail, colour, light, composition, POV, DOF....all perfect...regards h

What a perfect capture my friend, the centripetally placed reddish flowers disrupt the centered composition just like the finely in focus leaf in the left foreground, and that sharply in focus b.fly with black&white pattern and colouration details and finely evident wing sculpturing is a terrific addition to this beautiful macro shot. TFS indeed Alexei!

Excellent texture, the leaves butterfly and flower look as if I could reach out and touch them.

Hi Alex,
Wonderful sharpness and crisp clear image. Colors are rich. No wonder that you decided to repair your Sigma. Hope you get your beloved lens back soon.

Hello Alexei - OK, I censure you! ;}
Good Composition does follow certain basic rules, but rules are made to be broken. If you like it, that's what counts mf.
Your color, exposure, DOF, and detail R excellent..
And the overall "geometry" does win out :)
Well done!

Hi Alexei,
Yes,it's a bit centered but still a very good shot. It's crisp sharp with wonderful colors, contrast and lighting.

Hello Alexxeii,

I think rules are for guidance.
If they do not guide in a direction that pleases you then you ignore them!
I think tou were right to ignore them here. All the elements of this shot contribute something to the whole so they deserve to be there.

Wonderful details and vivid, pleasing colours.

Hi Alexei,

Lovely shot of the pretty butterfly, I'm pleased you didn't crop, I think we sometimes crop beacause we think we have to rather than what we wnat to do, nicely composed with nice clarity, I like the contrast of the monochrome colours of the Butterfly contrasting with the bright primary colours surrounding it, nice light too.

I agree: nothing can be cropped mercilessly from this frame, Alexei.
This is the work of your good old lens as your faithful servant.
It is the master who created this image, not the servant.
The image is so realistic it appears as if I am seeing it with my own eyes.
The colours are beautiful beyond description.
If your lens can be repaired, it would give me the utmost pleasure, my friend.
Best regards,

Well caught, Alexei,

you do well without the Sigma lens! You complain about the lack of repair facilities in your country. Be simply aware that we here live trough nightmares as well the moment we ask for guarantee or other repair work with any kind of photographic equipment. It makes me think that those enterprise hope that we throw nice equipment away when a first smudge shows on the lens.

Best regards

Hi Alexei

I am glad you did not crop it. We would not have seen the wonderful splashes of colour that the flowers give if you had and I can easily live with breaking the thirds rule which I frequently do anyway.

It is also beautifully sharp and clear.

hello Alexei

firstly lets go with the subject that is centered on the image,
first thing i said myself the butterfly is centered but then
i saw the flowers and leaf and i said, those too are doing
part of the image, it is why i love the framing you gived
to the image, the flower and leaf of the right side of the image
is giving a excellent DOF to the image

lovely luminosity of the image, with great sharpness and details,

Hello Alexei. This is gorgeous looking image indeed in geometry of beauty. The Sigma lens works very well under bright light and you have maintained nice shallow depth in muting the background. The flower and the leaf are very poetic with this stunning butterfly perching on it. Very well done and best regards. Jusni

An amazing shot in both light management and sharpness Dear Alexei! I can't help admiring the fantastic beauty of it and the perfect background. The central placement is just fine with me!

Your images a re most popular....and sometimes I wonder if it isn't politics..I don't mean that in a negative way. The citizens of my country are truly jaded in their opinions. I think, they think, they are in charge of the world..I am sad to say they are not. The US is on a track to rid nature of anything which might be in mas way. Let us hope that such beautiful butterfly's as this in such as ooloured worlds as yours can remain....A very fine tribute to you, nature and your work in both.

Hello Alexei,
Superb shot! What struck me first when I saw the thumbnail was 'Wow! what vibrant colours'. Excellent clarity, DOF and POV. I understand why you don't want to crop this picture. :) Good focus and very sharp picture. The intricate patterns on the wings of the butterfly and even on the leaf and flower are well captured. After seeing Ivan's WS, I think both versions have a charm of their own. If you want to give more importance to the butterfly, i think one should crop it. But if you want to present the butterfly and its colourful surroundings i think the original is best.
Thanks for the share,

I wish you much luck.

HI Alex!
Beautiful shot with focus I really find pleasing, and central composition is very striking and effective.

Hallo Alexei
What a delightful and sunny view. The details of both the flower and the butterfly are great and I cannot say one is better than the other. The yellow and red of the flower and the green leaf highlightes butterflies details to a great extent. The clarity of the markings and patterns on the wings are just great. I also like the way you presented this butterfly. This way one can see the difference in size between the flower and the insect. Thanks for sharing. I appreciated this one very much.
Kind regards

Dear Alexei,

Sorry I've missed a few of your great images over the past 10 days, but will make it up with you today :)
First thing I whant to say about this beauty is the fact that I disagree with you about the butterfly is to centered.
Normally It might be the fact, yes you're right, but in this case with the beautiful colors of the out of focus flower in the BG on the top right side and the wonderful clear leaf on the lower left side, the frame is perfectly filled up with details that really add to the entyre scene.
In other words perfect work!!!
Clarity, sharpness and exposure are all fantastic, and the colors, contrast and details amazing.
A great joy to look at. TFS!!!

Warm regards, Harry

Hi Alexei, What I like about this amazing picture is not just its composition, sharpness and DOF. It is guaranteed that Alexei WILL get it in his pictures :-). But I was observing the natural effect, as if one could reach and touch. As if the picture was seen through a window. Bravo my friend. That is photography!!

Warm regards,

Hello Alexei,
The beautiful flowers make a fine setting for the beautiful butterfly!
The black and white pattern stands out really well in the colourful surroundings, giving a nice 3-D feeling...
A well balanced composition, a treat to my eyes!

Hello Alexei
Even if it is centered it's a gorgeous shot with a gorgeous composition. You did too well not to cut it for it's too beautiful in all the details. As usual, the framing, DOF, sharpness, colors and exposure are perfect and create a delightful sensation.
Thank you very much for making it possible.

Hello Alexei!
As I see this time you decided to photograph a butterfly only as a small element of composition. I like this wide POV with insect in the middle. And even as a small creature it pays attention, mainly because of its natural black-white colouration (it makes a natural but beautiful contrast with rest of picture).
Anyway, I am not sure if keeping entire leaf and flower would be good (this is only my opinion of course :>). In such wide POV lack of the end of leaf does not look too good, even if the photo in general is very beautiful :)
Technique is great as always: perfectly saturated colours, very good DOF and sharpness :)
Best greetings and have a nice weekend my Friend!
Friendly yours,
