He might not be the most beautiful Goldfinch (yet) to be on TN but he may be the most special. The look on his face is priceless. He seems to be listening very carefully to your imaginary conversation. A superb shot of him with his wonderful face and beautiful plummage. As always, colors, details, background and composition are excellent. Now you know how we feel - it's been hotter than that here for three months now and we have about one and a half months to go. No lawns here - we are generally in a drought.

What humerous and at the same time deep notes! I like the idea of a dialogue with an animal very much! It remembers me my wife and I talking to the impatient sparrows while we are having breakfast on our terrace. They can't wait for the pieces of crusts we are giving them when we are finished.
First, I was a bit surprised and almost disappointed by a picture of a bird on a fence, but after having read your notes and the dificulty you have to get a good picture of a Goldfinch I find it amusing and... the bird really seems to challenge the spectator.

good capture, with splendid ligthing...
perfect bg. and focus.
nice note, really 38şg. it's a lot of heat :((
I was wondering what your feathered friend had been up to, with the plumage slightly in disorder, hehehe!
This is a fine composition and a good documentary, super details in the bird and the colours are well reproduced...

A great capture of a juvenile Goldfinch taken in a fine pose and showing his scruffy neck that is moulting. Technically superb in a fine composition with excellent neutral BG.
He may return to you to be photographed when he has reached maturity!
Thanks Alexei and have agood weekend,

Very good capture of this young goldfinch. Excellent light and very nice colours. I would be fine if you could give a little bit of sun here :-). We have too much water here.

Well, who knows, by the look on its face it may remember you and return to you one day!! The birds certainly seem to have suffered as much as us from the heat this summer so I'm glad you've given them a few showers! This one looks rather cool there sitting on the fence. Great focus and fine details. I like the beautiful soft background too.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

what a lovely post, i liked the title, the pose and the notes very much, sharp image with good details, lovely expressions,
tfs & regards
A very intriguing contrast between natural and wire fence...I have seen this image type before in my viewfinder but yet have to capture one which does this in such a dramatic way. Fences are very hard to work within nature but easy to work with in industry. you have manged to combine both! I shall put in workshop an example of how dramatic a fence alone can be..image me trying to mix this one with nature:-)

Hi Alexei...I love this, such good timing to get such an image, the detail is wonderful, showing such character to this young bird..fine effort!! regards h

Fantastic photo of this little bird, good sharpness and colors. Interesting and funny note. Good job
Hello my friend
Very nice shot of this youngster. It looks so nice in it's curiousity - like it is wondering what is that strange creature duing with that funny thing. Why is it behaving like that. Is it dangerous or is it drunk.:-).
I fully agree - they are very lovely birds and getting close enough to get a decent shot can take a lot of time. I know, because I have tried for years without result.
You did well Alexei. Nice colours, clever handling og the light, very nice composition and a funny attitude.
Have a nice weekend

Buen fondo y bello conjunto.

nice notes, it is not the most beautiful picture from the Goldfinch but this is one special picture.

Just a quick one now...trying to catch up after my trip last week :)
Very funny capture of this goldfinch and also very cute note to complete it :))
Indeed temperatures are going crazy everywhere and i'm affraid to say it might be our (human's) folt. The entire wildlife is also suffering and the ones of us who can show it, have to...it's our moral obligation as nature lovers.
Back to the picture, i really like the unique pose you've captured the bird in and the terrific sharpness you presen it with.
Further more, the light is very good and your exposure is spot-on.
Bravo and TFS

Alexei "dear" friend,
This "IS" a great catch, indeed.
I usually "hide" from the sight of the birds whenever I register them at "anticipated" locations; and, I use the remote control to click.
Much luck for your next adventure.
Mario with warm regards.
P.S. It has been warmer but the nights are cold here in Calgary. I LOVE LIVING IN CALGARY though at times it is VERY VERY COLD. We have the central heating system ... very comfortable within the home at ALL times.
Great shot of this young Goldfinch. Nice detail, colour and lighting. Your conversation reminds me of a very famous 'put down' by Winston Churchill to Lady Astor :-
Lady A :- Mr Curchill, you are disgustingly drunk!
Winston C :- And you madam are ugly - but I shall be sober in the morning!
Deseando que todo vaya a mejor.
Precioso pajarillo, con buenos detalles y gran nitidez.
Genial enfoque aprovechando la luz natural.

I like this shot much more than the perfect adult goldfinch shots. This young juvenile is all at once comical, attractive and cute. I love the pose with the interested glance and the elongated neck. Wonderfully sharp, well composed and perfect DOF

38 degrees is very hot for me... I would have problem at this temperature and I understand that birds need a little water...During summer time, we have some hot weather as well but 38 is exceptional and I don’t like it (25 is my comfort zone, over that, it’s though). I’m definitively a Nordic person :) This is a very friendly capture with funny notes and excellent composition, exposure and details. Thanks,

Hello Alexei !
Well, this one is not exactly cute, he's got a strange thin neck, makes him look very odd. But the picture, of course, is a sperfect as possible - sharpness, details, colors, composition, POV and BG are perfect, but what I like most here is the pose of the bird. He looks curious and attentive. Very well done !

What a great shot! It fits to the category "Humorous" also. The fence itself doesn't bother me at all, it's a part of our lives, but at the same time they mean great observer points to our birds. Composition, colors, exposure, sharpness are excellent each. A very attractive image! Bravo! Due to it 5 years passed since you posted it, I hope you managed to portrait a mature Goldfinch in the meantime. If not... good luck, come on! :-)
Best regards, László
