Dark Green Fritillary (male).
I liked it because it looked like it was floating in mid air but of course it was actually perched on a Scabious flower.
Dark Greens are one of my favourite butterfly species. They are beautiful on both upper and undersides and have wonderful caterpillars and pupae.
Like all UK fritillaries, these ones are threatened by habitat loss and greedy people who would develop prime sites and lazy councils who cannot be bothered to protect sites even when they are designated as nature reserves. Hard luck I guess but we need to fight and preserve all planet earth's natural world.

Great how you've captured this lovely butterfly against the wonderful soft background Julian.
Excellent exposure, sharpness and depth of field.
Lighting, details and colors are very beautiful.
It really looks as if the butterfly is floating.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Harry

Hello Julian,
Very nice and sharp. Well saturated colors. Nice DOF and pleasant background. The butterfly does look like it is floating as you said. My only suggestion would be a different crop. I would do horizontal crop with much less space above and below butterfly.
Regards,
Ken

Hola Julian
Preciosa captura de esta linda Argynnis aglaja. I like a lot the POV with all that smooth green bg and the butterfly standing out so well. Ops! Ya no sé en qué idoma escribo, qué locura! A mí también me gustan mucho estas mariposas, aunque me resulta un poco difícil distinguir unas 'Fritillaries' de otras.
Una foto fantástica, muchas gracias por compartirla. Saludos.
Maite
