The tree ...
The Bristolian Whitebeam (Sorbus bristoliensis) is a very rare tree species. In the wild it grows only in a small areas near Bristol.

The environment ...
This picture I took in the Downs, a high plateau at the boundary of the famous Avon Gorge and the city of Bristol in the valley below. The Downs, and even more the neighbouring Avon Gorge, host many rare tree and flower species. The reason for the remarkable flora is, as is indicated on information tables, the special microclimate in the valley of the Avon Gorge, but also due to early efforts of local people, such as the wife of famous Bristolian architect and engineer Brunel, to protect this area.

Making of ...
The photo I made on a sunny spring day evening with the sun in the back. I followed a map where the position of this special tree was indicated. A wide angle lens was used in order to get the full tree into the picture.

Hello Mike! Wonderful tree. Amazing light and colors. Excellent picture. Good luck!

Hoi Mike,
