Iím so envious of the dragonfly photos that people post on this site! The 2 dragonfly photos Iíve posted (the other will follow shortly!) are probably the 2 photographs Iím proudest of (critiques are still welcome though!). I certainly find dragonflies the hardest insect to photograph Ė which is really frustrating as they are so beautiful!

This is a male Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) dragonfly.

They are around 40mm in length and have a wingspan of around 60mm. Males are red and females and immature males are more yellow. They often travel far from still water where they breed and can be seen flying between June-October.

Very nice photo Matthew. I like pose of this Dragonfly and its shinning eyes.

Hi Matt, a lovely shot, I like this dragonflies so much. I also have plenty shots here of the same ID. I never found another one, but I love this one with the big red eyes.
