There remain five subspecies of tiger,the one pictured is an Amur,or Siberian,which is the largest and most
impressive of the Tigers.
The native population is between 150-300.
However,the international zoo breeding programme maintains and manages a population of more
than 550.I photographed this Tiger several years ago
in Chester Zoo,the reason for the alert look on the tigers face was due to a sparrow flying into his enclosure and landing nearby.
