Sumatran Tiger, (Panthera Tigris Sumatrae)
The Sumatran tiger is in danger of becoming the first major mammal to become exstinct in the 21st century as villages fight a deadly war with this magnificent but ferocious predator.
With fewer than 400 of the creatures estimated to be left in the wild, the Sumatran tiger is classified as critically endangered,it is the most vunerable of all of the six surviving tiger subspecies. The fact that several victims of recent attacks have been devoured by the tigers, which have little taste for human flesh, suggests how hungary and desperate they are becoming as economic exploitation of their habitat confines them to ever smaller and impoverished patches of jungle. This Sumatran tigres was photographed in Chester zoo where a breeding program is underway. |
