Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all having a very enjoyable weekend.

I have just returned from a very enjoyable trip to The Lake District. The weather has been mainly dry if extremely cold! Still, cold weather is fine for walking.

Today, I am posting a shot that I took of a blackheaded gull on the jetty at Coniston. Anyone who has read 'Treasure Island' will know why I am calling this bird Long John Silver! The aforementioned person only had one leg! I thought the gull only had one leg and was amazed at how well it was balancing!!!
When the bird flew away, miraculously another leg appeared from beneath its feathers! I was well and truly duped!!

Many thanks for your visit.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph. :-)

Hi Beverly

A nice capture here of Long John Silver and don't worry, you're not the first person that got caught out by a gull and its one legged stunt. Its amazing how that other leg can disappear between the feathers. The late afternoon light actually gave this bird a lovely soft colour cast. The details came out nice and sharp and perhaps the only slight pity might be that the left hand side of the head went slightly missing in the darkish BG. Otherwise it's a great capture.

Well done and TFS.

Hi Bev,
i'm looking forward to my trip to the Lakes in June i can tell you :o) I really like the light in this one, nice and bright but not OE. The single leg thing here is a classic Gull pose! I wonder if they do this to keep the other one warm and then swap over...anyway, lovely stuff, keep it up.

Hello Beverley,
He is only training for his balance act, hehehe!
Jokes aside, this is a beautiful portrait of a lovely bird!
The plumage is well exposed and comes out with fine details, and the bird stands out well on the background...
