This is another of my macro attempts from this Summer, I got quite into it and hope to get a few more once and if we get good weather next year.

thanks for looking

Yellow Dung fly

The Latin name is Scathophaga stercoraria

The size is about 10mms long

It can be found throughout all of the UK

You will find them from April til October

Adults feed on small insects found in the dung whilst the larvae will feed on dung itself (yuk!)

Main habitat is pasture land where animal dung is found

The males have bright yellow furry bodies. The females are slightly more dull coloured.

In early spring yellow dung-flies congregate on dung to mate and lay eggs. Their larvae feed and develop inside the dung.

Hello Hilary,
a successful attempt! The clearly visible and sharp details and the 3-dimensional impression
which is due to well balanced light in connection with an approrpriately selected depth of field
render this an admirable picture.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Hil.
I like how you use macro converter and love your close-ups. Very impressive specimen of robber fly and superb reproduction of its stunning details and features. Colours are fine and unusual for our steppes. Shot is composed perfectly and POV is great too. Bravo.

Hi Hilary,
A very fine close-up shot with good details and DOF, the whole
fly is in good focus. The colours are nice and natural and I like the composition. The OOF down is maybe a bit distracting,
it you raised the camera a small bit maybe it had been some
better, but it's not easy, I know that.
Well done.

Hi Hilary. A fantastic close up of this dung fly. Your Raynox lens has done so well in your hands. very good detail ans bright colours. a good POV so well can see the side view against the plain BG. well done TFS.

Hello Hil

Wow very impressive macro, the details are sharp and well focused.
The colours are well saturated.
So these guys prefer yellow dung do they? LOL
Seriously a well presented capture,I agree with Gert that it is not easy to always get foreground distractions out of the field of view, but you have done well here to capture the fly.
Nicely done.

Hi Hilary,

Excellent Macro shot
Perfect compo, colors, POV, DOF and BG
