[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Whinchat are a relatively scarce summer migrant in England. They do, however breed on the high moors of the South West but take a degree of effort to locate. Throughout June I studied a breeding pair not far from home. From my portable hide I took the photo of a female in an unusual pose as the sun set late one evening.

Hi Chas
Welcome to TN and you've made a fine start with this contribution. Very mellow tones and excellent framing of the bracken stem and an good pose by the Winchat gives this a 10/10 for me!
Kind Regards

Hi Charles. Firstly a warm welcome to TN. I am sure you will like it here. I will go as far to say this is a first class close up of the Whinchat. Taken in a fine pose with its head hidden away. You have fine detail and sharp focusinh . Your use of the light has given warm summer colours. A fine POV/DOF. The bird stands out so well from the plain green BG. well done TFS.

Hello Chas,
Welcome to TN!
You start off with an excellent capture of a resting female Winchat, taken with fine sharpness in the evening light and well composed with the bracken stem that it is sitting on. The OOF natural BG sets it off well too.
Thanks and I hope to see more from you!
Best regards from Sweden
