[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

firstly may i apologise for not being around much in the past week or so. Extremely poor weather and commitments have kept me away from TN i'm afraid, but at least this evening i have some free time at last. I will try to catch up!

I had the day off work last Friday, and headed to Dartmoor with a friend to try to get some shots of the Tors there with some low winter sun...alas, it turned into a cloudy, bleak day with flat light, as usual on Dartmoor.
So we just decided to pick a spot on the map, and followed a river to it, the general area being called Hayne Down.
This particular river has no name, nor any significance but wound it's way through the trees beautifully, cascading in little falls all along the way..
You can see how poor the light was here, but without anything else new to post, i wanted to at least share something. This weekend is looking much better weatherwise, and i should have some free time too :o)

shot in RAW, increased exposure +2, curves, converted to JPEG, resized and sharpened

Thanks for looking...

Impresionante arroyo Paul, con espectaculares formas y colores reales. Dinamismo por el tiempo de exposición, 15 segundos :-). Una buena luz. Preciosa toma.

Hello Paul,
if you can produce a photo such as this from somewhere then it must be special!
I love the silky texture of the water that has been perfectly exposed.
The sharpness on the surrounding rocks is superb!
All the different greens in this photo is fantastic.
Exceptional work.
Well done,

Hi Paul

A Great photographer is the one that can come up with wonderful photos from any spot on the map!
And this is the case here! I would call this an outstanding contrast of textures - there is no smooth surface on any stone here, only that charming moss covering all side and adding great tones to your scene, while on the other side, the water is super silky thanks to your very long shutter speed.
Analyzing the paramenters, i must agree with you about that poor light - such a long exposure plus a +2 increase...i can only imagine how dark the picture would have looked with 3 or 4 sec. and no compensation.
Yet you managed it very nicely and created a lovely composition.
I wish you luck for this weekend, my friend and i can only hope that we will have some fine weather, too, for i am starving for some action as well :)

Cheers and TFS

Hi Paul, I have to say you have done a great job considering the weather conditions, if I had not read your note I wouldn't have know. I am always a little nervous to overexpose, but I shall certainly try it. The scene is beautiful and it should have a name, I like the slow shuter speed on the smooth flower water. The detail on the banks is pin sharp, you brought out wonderful autumnal colours. Superb compositon. Thanks for the informative note.

Great shot Paul as always, I love long exposures like that but this one is totally fabulous and it's because the composition is also terrific. Perfect shot 10/10 ! Thanks,

Very nice comp and POV Paul.
You've got excellent DOF, color, and exposure going on too :)
I always enjoy this milky effect produced on the water, with the long times as well..
Very well done.

Hi Paul,

Hello Paul,
Very beautiful composition showing this stream running between the mossy stones. Excellent POV and with a lovely autumnal feel to it. Personally I'm not keen on "frothy-looking" water, it doesn't look natural to me while the surrounding elements are natural. I think you know what I mean, but it's a matter of taste of course - it seems very popular with photographers. (To me water is just too beautiful to distort!)
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hello Paul,
Excellent composition with the f/22 in silk like blurness!
the exposure and focus is spot on in this shot!

Very good picture, and something to learn from the notes too.
It`s really not much to say about this, in my (unexperienced)eyes everything is perfect - composition, colors and light.

Hi Paul,
Wow......simply majestic. Outstanding colours and details and I adore the silky flow of the water. The moss laden boulders and the sprinkling of colours on them looks fantastic. Excellent POV to portray this charming scene and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Paul!

I know I can be honest with you: among all your last postings, this one is the one I like less.

From my point of view, the effect of the flowing water is overdone. I know, this is made intentionally and creates a romantic effect, but - verry subjectively - I don't like it too much when it is too far from reality.

On the other hand, the shapes of the boulders, the fantastic green color and the composition are great.

Kind regards

Hello Paul,
What a nice exposure here! Beautiful!
You managed very beautiful landscape photo, with excellent details, POV & composition.
Also, lovely colours here and it looks like a painting. :)
Well presented and TFS,
Best wishes,

Hi Paul.
Beautiful colours and beautifully taken with the softness of the water running through the mossy bolders and the low POV.

Hi Paul,
A stunning capture of this stream. Lovely composition and very eye catching colors. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Paul,
I thought I spent some time on TN while at work. This is a briliant photo where the slow shutter speed showed the flow of the water perfectly. The details on the moss and the texture in the water are wonderful. I am particular fond of the flow of this stream. Would a merge of two different RAW conversion have given you a bit more sky details?

Another good image.
Well composed.

Hallo Paul
This is my second day as a Trek Nature member and still I am so excited to see all the lovely photos on the gallery. I think at this stage my eyes are working overtime to search for anything that will grab my attention, and I believe by end of the week I’ll be squint-eyed. It is quite a difficult task. There are just so many talented photographers on the site and they all have such spectacular portfolios. Upon browsing I came upon your portfolio and must admit it was really a case of eny meny miny moo, for which one of the beautiful landscape photos I wanted to give my smiley. You are really blessed to have all this wonderful scenes nearby you. It is like I said to somebody else yesterday, it would be wonderful to wake up each morning and a different landscape or scene greets you. The title of your photo might be “Nowhere Special” but this is indeed a very special and tranquil scene. Heaven on earth. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards

Hi Paul,
Stunning landscape the colours are amazing and the 15sec exposure has done the job nicely, excellent dof, and amazing water movement, very nice work all the best Cheers Rick :)

Nice classic waterfall shot.
