[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

this is another shot from the much photographed Kimmeridge Bay, taken just over a week ago as the sun was dipping behind the horizon.
At the moment, there is nothing but a perpetual dull, grey sky blanketing most the south of the UK, which is a bit frustrating as i have 2 weeks off of work with not much else to do with my free time but wander around take photographs...or not, thanks to the typical English weather!
So, i thought i'd share this, a very simple composition of sea smoothed pebbles and rocks sat in very still shoreline water.
I hope the sun isn't too distracting here, but i was experimenting with timing and to see of i could capture the exact moment when the sun is about to vanish and the last of it's rays are just peering over the horizon. Maybe it works?

shot in RAW, a little tweak of curves and levels to bring out some colour in the sky, converted to JPEG, resized and sharpened

Thanks for looking..

As Joe (Joey) has pointed out, the horizon here is slightly askew...my apologies for not giving this posting on TN the attention you all deserve :o)

Wow! Superb capture! Love the framing with the horizon on the top.

Voilà un photo bien cadrée avec un réglage de luminosité impeccable
Bonne journée.

Doggone it Paul...well if things go as they have in the past, you can take great editorial and news shots of the terrible things that changes in weather are doing to your country. Seems like every year I see some new record flooding or some such..which is why your seascape pictures made a nice change from what I was beginning to believe on the news...

Exceptional shot Paul!
You've captured the sun-rays streaming over the horizon very well. It is not at all distracting :)
Excellent composition however the horizon is slightly off! I know you would always check that though... maybe you forgot! ;)
Gorgeous lighting and superb exposure!
Great notes as well.
Well done mate.

Hi Paul, beautiful composition, wonderful landscape. Yes, the last rays of sun is a great idea as it gives life and contrast to your photo. Your wide-angle use is so nice. Thank you!

Hi Paul!

This is another very beautiful picture. The atmosphere is so peaceful, underlined by the quiet water, the reflections and the soft colors. A lovely sunset scenery.

I'm not sure if the horizon is askew. Isn't this just the effect of the perspective?

Kind regards

Dreamy image, Paul.
Excellent to share your experience through photography...
Well done

Hi Paul,
Just marking this wonderful post for the moment, lest I miss it, and will come back with a proper critique later.

Hello Paul
This is very nice...
I love the flat calm of the water as the sun goes down..you often get this on lakes but I have never seen it on the sea.
Perfect exposure giving glorious colours.
I can see what Joey has said about the horizon..a small nit really...im not sure if you know or not but you can get a hotshoe sprirt level quite cheaply which would keep your horizons straight and save loads of time in PP leveling it out.
Great Note and all the best to you

Hello Paul,
What a wonderful capture of this sunset, the water is so smooth it almost looks like ice. Excellent POV and great DOF. Colours are beautiful and the group of stones at the base gives a nice balance. Very well done!
Many thanks, Ulla

Hello Paul,
Beautiful colors, sharp image and a very minor oversight of the horizon. I think you need a holiday, planes do fly from the UK to Canada you know. You wouldn't be disappointed I can asure you. Calgary is the closes International Airport.

Hello Paul

Excellent clarity and interesting perspective.
Just marking post for now.

This is definitely a situation where a centered setting sun works just fine. Looking far out over that glassy water is wonderful. I'd might feel sorry about your weather but I am too busy feeling sorry for myself! Rain, rain and more rain.

Hello Paul,
Wonderful smooth light and excellent low point of view make this picture so outstanding. I just wonder on which height your place your camera on the tripod? Super work, Paul.
I wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Hi Paul

This too is a lovely ultra wide angle shot of this tranqil place.
Everything here seems so smooth - the water, the rocks etc. - and together with the colors in the scene, they all give the image such a superb calmness...it actually relaxes the viewer to watch it :)
Even if the horizon is a little bit tilted, i still think it's a terrific shot with a gorgeous composition: 1/3 sky and 2/3 "ground"...well water and ground :)
The colors are also brilliant and i really like that touch of flaming red over the horizon, to the left.

Splendid work overall!
Bravo and TFS

Hi Paul,
I see I've got some catching up to do again.
It seems that we both sometimes forget about tilted horizons. It doesn't make the photo less beautiful. What I really like about this shot is the pure calmness of the water. It is so different from you other photos where the water is all action. This one creates a bit of a zen feel. The flat water also works pefectly with the smooth shaped stones. I think that if the rocks were all jagged, the photo would not have a good harmony. It is a pity that the sun came out this bright.

Hello Paul ! Happy Christmas to you ! That's a marvellous shot, the details are so sharp and the light is beautiful. The exposure on this one was not an easy one but you managed it perfectly. It would make a great cover for a Pink Floyd album ! Thanks !
