[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is my first posting of the House sparrow. It was taken on Sunday when i took the Starling. This one was on its own in the car park next to the sea. It was taken hand held in good light . I would have liked a more natural looking BG but this was not to be this time.

House Sparrow ( Passer domesticus )Length 14-15cm.

Although the House Sparrow population has dramtically declined in recent years it is still widespread in Britain and Ireland.

This is a common, noisy Sparrow which is one of the most familiar small Birds due to its habit of nesting in buildings.

The Male has grey crown, cheeks and rump, chestnut-brown nape, back and wings, pale underparts and a black throat.

The Female is rather nondescript with streaked buff and grey-brown plumage. The Female can often be confused with a Female Finch.

Small groups of these Birds are often seen sitting on roofs.
Frequnetly dust-bathes.

They usually nest in roof spaces or holes in walls but occasionally builds large and untidy nests in bush.
They usually have between 3-7 eggs, 1-4 broods in April-August.

They feed on seeds, nuts and berries mainly from the ground, plus Insects for their young.

When fed in urban parks they can become very tame often taking food from the hand.

Hi Nicholas,

Nice to be your neighbour and having the same subject. I must say your bird looks much happyer then mine as time looks much better at you. It is a very nice light you have had and there are very good colors to be seen on bird's plumage. Very nice and sharp image showing so well the pattern of the plumage. The bird stays nicely against the background.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

The light here is beautiful, Nick. : )
And the sparrow's posture is wonderful.
Super sharp details and excellent POV.
The BG may not be the most "natural",
but it sure makes a clean contrast with the subject.
We can't have everything, can we?
TFS. : )

Hi Nick,

I just had about 40 of these sparrows fighting for room at the feeder! An adorable pose with the seed in his mouth. Excellent natural colors and super sharp details. The parking lot turned into an interesting background with the colors blending nicely with those of the bird.

Jane

Hi Nick, what a lovely pose of this beutiful house sparrow. Details, sharpness anc composition are excellent.
TFS and cheers,
Bayram

You know why I like this? Because it is where I see them...either on some asphalt, concrete or in my feeder or on my grass.....I have no usual backdrop as you do with superb branches and natural earth tones..You humble me...and for that I thank you!

A very eloquent shot of the male House Sparrow taken at the spur of the moment, Nick. I do not find the background distracting or unsuited.
The colours on the bird are very charming.
Well done and TFS.

It is beautiful, Nick, with the great saturated colours, the beautiful light and yes, the pavement is often the environment of House Sparrows, so the background is perfect to me. The more I look at sparrows, the more I realize how beautiful they are. Thank you, another beautiful bird well shown by your eyes,

Francine

Hello Nick,

This is a lovely shot of the bird, clearly showing the range of brown tones in its quite intricate plummage. I like the way it is showing its tongue ... it appears to be begging! Good eye reflection.

These birds are still very prevelant in my garden and outnumber any other species.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
