Something a little bit different today . At the weekend i was walking down by the river when i saw a Buzzard in an old Oak tree. Only for it to fly away just as i got ready to take its picture. I lent on the tree trunk and had a cup of tea as it was a very cold day. I could hear this small bird above my head which turned out to be this Wren. It spent most of the time upside down looking at me. A unusual POV .
This was taken hand held .

Wren ( Troglodytes troglodytes )

The Wren is a tiny plump finely-barred Bird with a surprisingly loud voice.
The Wren has a habit of raising its very short tail vertically.
It alos has a distinctive flight which is fast and direct, often plunging straight into dense cover.
Wren populations decline in cold winters but usually recover quite quickly.
They nest in small loose ball of leaves and grass in bank.
They have 5-6 eggs, 2 broods, in April-July.
They have a pale stripe over the eye, brown colour barred wings, strong legs and feet and a very slightly downcurved fine bill, they also have a short rounded tail.
For food it forages on Insects and Spiders in low thick cover under hedges, in ditches and other dark damp places.
The Wren is similar in species to the Dunnock and the Robin.

Hi Nicholas

Yip, this is different for sure. A very interesting POV of this little Wren with the case
of mistaken identity. Looks like it was thinking it is a bat (chuckle). Well spotted and
captured. Nice clear details and even a little catchlight in the eye for a bonus.

Well done MF and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Marius.

hello Nick
great pose of this little one
great sharpness and very good colours with good light

Hello Nicholas,

Excellent photo, here in Venezuela we also have similar species and we call "Cucaracheros". The photo has a beautiful setting for light and an ideal POV for this funny and tiny bird. Excellent use of the location, with this wood obscuring the upper side, the bird in the middle and a blue sky very balanced in down side. A complex picture and well managed.

Hi Nick,

Did you off this little Wren some of your tea? He must have been cold too. A wonderful shot of this upside down little bird with the big eye and cute beak. The colors and details of the feathers are marvelous. I love the rich colors of the tree and the sky.
