This is the first picture with my new Canon 7D. Fairly happy so far but a lot to learn. I see some white reflections on the green leaves which i am not to happy about. I shall have to wait now to next weekend as its dark when i go and come home from work in the week. The Longtailed Tits come to the garden to feed but only stay a few moments they don't stay still at all.

Long-Tailed Tit . ( Aegithalos caudatus ) Length 14 cm.

The tiny rounded body and slender tail of the Long tailed Tit gives it a ball and stick shape, that is quite unique among European birds.

In summer family parties move noisily through bushes and undergrowth, but in the winter they often travel through woodland in much larger groups, crossing gaps between trees .

Feeding flocks often resemble animated feather dusters.

The plumage can look black and white but at close range has a pinkish wash to the underpatrs and pinkish buff look on their back.

It has a tiny stubby bill.

Voice: High, thin, colourless seee seee seee short abrupt low trrp or zerrp.

Nesting: Rounded nest of Lichen., moss, cobwebs and feathers with a side entrance in low bush. 8-12 eggs, 1 brood. April-June.

Feeding: Tiny Insects and Spiders taken from twigs and foliage, some seeds.

They are becoming increasingly seen at garden feeders.

Hello Nick,
An unusual bird for me.
Very cute and with an impressively long tail for one so small.
Excellent POV and composition.
I like the fluffed up feathers and the tucked-in look.
It must be cold out there.
TFS. : )

Hi Nick!

Congratulations! I bet you'll master your new cam very fast! This is another very cute specie of small bird. Nice pose and composition, good colours and light. For me most surprising is that BG is full of green leaves - I saw last of them about three months ago in my place...

Sooooo cute, Nick, this is one of my favourite birds, so soft and lovely.
You captured it wonderful, we can see the yellow eyelid so well, they always wear make-up ;-)
Thanks, a fantastic post,
have a good start into the new week

Hello Nic,
Yes the new 7D looks like a winner and you took a fine shot of the Long-tailed Tit taken from a great POV with nice sharpness against a leafy OOF Bg. I'm sure you'll take great shots with this camera.
If you took this shot today the dating has gone wrong...
Thanks and have a good week,

hello Nick
very good shot of this Beauty
great sharpness and beautiful colours ,good details
greeting lou

Hi Nicholas,
Maybe this shot is not as sharp as your usual captures, but for a first try with a new camera it is still very good. The usage of a tripod points to a slight focal error MF, what do you think?

Hi Nick,
Hope you are enjoying the new camera.Nice to see those lovely pink colours on your Long-tailed Tit, and I myself like the photo very much.

Dear Nicholas

This is another beautiful bird portrait as we are used by you. The simple composition is effective and gives a good overall impression of this cute little fellow. I believe the white reflections are not a result of your new camera, but of the quite hard daylight. If this picture would be taken in RAW, it could easily be postprocessed. But it's also ok like that.

Kind regards

Hi Nicholas,
Well ive read the 7D is a fantastic camera, hope you have many happy photography hours with it.Nice sharp image with unique colours and patterns on this tit.The white reflections as you say are slightly disturbing but im sure you will soon iron that OE probelm out, overall a great shot, take care.

Hello Nick,
A lovely capture of this cute little Long-tailed Tit in beautiful light. Great focus on its pretty eye and lovely natural colours too. Very well done!
