Taken down by the local river this week. This Dance fly seemed happy to pose as the sun had just broken through and it was still very cool.

Dance fly ( Empis tesselata. ) A small dark empid or assassin fly. seen April - July . Visits flowers for nectar but also catches other flies . these are somtimes carried in flight and then sucked dry using a long downward pointing proboscis. Body length 11mm.

Nice to see you posting regularly again.
Good capture and TFS

Hi Nick,

A good shot of the dance fly, good colours and detail shown. The dandelion is well advanced showing it seeds already.

TFS regards Bill

Hello Nick
To walk on this fragile ground it is risked.
Bravo for the quality of the neatness, and the precision of the picture
Thank you
best regards

Cioa Nicholas. I like the light's management. Good details against inrigant shades like BG.

Nice work Nick, great choice of aperture, isolating the dandelion well against the background, yet still getting it all in focus. Details and exposure are spot on too - well done mate, hope your well :o)

Hello Nick,
Lovely capture of this fly. Very good sharpness and clarity.
Exceptional focus.

Hi Nicholas,
Ah! f/8 was perfect to focus well the dandelion and the insect, just where it's needed! at the same time achieved a significant blur in the edge of the dandelion and causes it to mix with the green and contrasting background. Veri Nice MF! Indeed, you also make excellent macros. It is a pleasure to see these works. TFS, Regards, Jesús

Hallo Nick
The fine detail captured on this dandelion is really very beautiful. It is delicate, soft coloured and is seen with great clarity, and although you have a little insect in the picture as well, the dandelion to me is the main attraction. It looks like 100's of stars stiched together. I also like the full framed composition. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hello Nich,
Something special, an interesting combination Dandelion and Dance fly. In fact it could be the beginning of a story..
I like the simplicity of the shot and the fine colors. Nice framing too.
Have a nice weekend
Kind regards

Hello Nicholas
you have captured this Dance Fly with great clarity, in spite his small size, details on the dandelion are nice too, the dark insect is well seen on the white flower,
a superb composition
Have a great WE
