Taken on a wet day from my garden hide.

Blackbird ( Turdus merula ) Length 25cm.
Familiar garden bird in much of Britain and Ireland. Can also be found in woodland, farmland and on moors. Mostly resident but North European birds add to numbers in winter. Male easily identified by Thrush like appearance and all black plumage, yellow eye ring and bill. Female and juvenile has brown speckled plumage. Harsh alarm calls often heard at dusk and if a prowling cat is nearby. Male is an excellent singer. Feeds on worms, insects, fruit and berries

Hello Nick,
Great capture with razor sharp details and superb colours.
I can see even the rain drops on his feders. Excellent composition with good POV.

Hallo Nick,
nice to see a new picture from you; a fantastic capture in your garden of this common bird, i like very much this composition similar to my personal style to conceive the photography.
Best regards

Black and Wet eh? Pleasing combination. Excels and could be printed even with the red odd piece which helps to set off black!

Hi Nick,

This is a wonderful photo of this black bird. The detail is excellent and best example of this is the rain drops on the feathers which are really nice. The picture is well exposed although I do think that the DOF is a bit to big and maybe a smaller f/number could have been used. Im envious of your hide now with you getting great close shots like this ;).
Great capture and TFS

Hello Nick,
A perfect composition, a fine POV, the contrasting OOF laurel bush BG and a superb pose taken with technical excellence contribute to a great portrait of a male Blackbird. The eye contact is outstanding, in fact it is the focal point of the image.
Nice work and TFS it.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,

Hello Nick,

Beautiful photo here. Wonderful details, from the eye to the tips of the 'claws'. He looks as if he has either been cleaning himself in some water or it is raining, and this enhances the plumage. I can almost hear him singing, the sound of summer days.

Greetings, Amelia

Hi Nick,

This beautiful Blackbird doesn't seem to mind being out in the rain. I love the yellow eye ring and beak and the droplets on the wonderful black feathers. Details of the face and feathers are superb. He looks wonderful with the green leaves behind him.
