Seven Spot Ladybird

Latin name: Coccinella punctata

Size: Approximately 6mms long

Distribution: Found throughout the U.K.

Months seen: March to October

Food: Aphids

Habitat: Fields, parks, woods and gardens

I captured this Ladybird rounding up aphids in our garden this morning. The average Ladybird can eat around 5000 aphids during its lifetime and its larvae feed on them too.A true friend of the gardener and a welcome resident in any garden which has an aphid problem (which ours seems to have at the moment!).

Halo Andy!
Superb macro! I love it very much especialy aphids! They are amazing!

Excellent post, Andy. You can see how the pea aphids are trying to scape from the claw of the predator. They are small but no stupid. You did very well to capture all this three into DOF. The texture on the ladybug is very good. Thanks for posting.

Razorsharp details on both the Ladybug and it's prey and the leaf. Good colors and perfect POV & DOF. In a perfect world the space you have in the right, would have been on the left. A minor nit though. A great picture. Well done & TFS!

Bon apetit you great Ladybird! Eat all of those stupid aphids ;-) Great scene Andy, Ladybirds are quite popular on TN but I didn't saw many of them with aphids. Great post.

Hi Andy, sharpen and colors are very beautiful.
Excellent work. Thanks.

Excellent macro Andy and 3 for 1!
Very sharp and detailed down to aphid size!! Great color also..If you had room in the original, space left instead of right would improve this one..Very well done!

I can hear the aphids, "run for your lives, ahhhhhhhhh"
Excelent shot and well done on the DOF.

Good macro, Andy.
Great details, the aphids are well seen.
Nice colours and compostion.
Very well done.

Very nice Andy the scene is well seen and clear the only alteration I would make would be to crop away the right half of the image. TFS

Personal assessment of the photo: more tha great. I think it is the first time on TN we can see a ladybug with prays.
Good visual impact.
Aptness of the photo for the site: excellent.
Personal assessment of the note: complete.
Thank you Andy for sharing this picture and for the enjoyment which it give us.

Come over here darling.... :) I can see the ladybug just trying to get to those aphids. I think they have run out of space and luck. :) Its an impressive capture and the DOF is perfect such a nice shot, Andy. Very well done.

Nice shot, but it would have been much better to frame it more on the left to avoid all the empty space on the right side.
Well done.

Andy, maybe I have already told you I've been looking for one of them for quite a long time, but, so far, I couldn't find one.

A great picture. They are very lovely and beautiful, and you did great.
