One of the things I loved about my recent visit to the UK was the bluebells, We don't have great patches of them here in Canada. So I took a few landscape shots of them as well as a few closeups.

But I discovered that most of the bluebells that I saw were not in fact native at all. The vast majority of them are Spanish Bluebells (Hyacinthoides hispanica), with a more erect nature than the native bluebell, larger, paler blooms and almost no scent at all. It seems that these two flowers hybridize easily and produce a vigorous seed that is taking over the space commonly inhabited by the native plants, this slowly forcing them out.

Tech: Captured (handheld) in raw, adjusted levels, contrasts and colour saturation in raw, converted to jpg without cropping, resized, sharpened edges and signed

Thanks for looking and for all your kind critiques, suggestions and workshops. Have a beautiful weekend

Good image, most of the Bluebells where I live are under a lot of shade from the tree storeys.. so, this is a refreshing look at this lovely plant.. tfs, regards h

This is what I'd love to see in NZ.

Hello Silke,
A pleasant capture with nice color, exposure, and depth.
Well done,

Hello, My Friend,

Nice to see you posting again!
I just love 'bluebell time'! The weather is usually warm, it beckons summer and it reminds me of happy, childhood days of walks with the family and romps with my brothers!

This scene conjures up all those memories.
The main trees are perfectly placed and are surrounded by a carpet of blue, interspaced by soft greens.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Silke,
Yes this is how I remember Bluebells when I lived in England: carpeting the floor of the woods in May, which you have captured as if it were a painting in a nice composition with the tree trunks: all you need is the scent...
TFS this beauty,
Ivan

Hi Silke,
Great carpet of lovely purple flowers. Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately, such sights are fast vanishing due to indiscriminate urbanisation.

Another photo that has me breathing heavy with jealousy that I don't see this where I am..you have hidden talents my dear... who are you trying to impress over here? Who cares for you more than we do? (please provide a written list).. B-)... Just amazing color, very pleasing shot, with greens and blues being so nice on the eyes. Excellent work.. so happy I just "happened" by on this site..
B-)

Bonjour,
Que la nature est généreuse.
Bonne journée.

Dear Silke,
beautiful invasion, indeed.
I like the soft light creating a gentle fairy tale feeling of spring. We do not have those bluebells in the centre of Europe where there is a more continental climate.
Interesting to read those facts about invasion and hybridization. It seems that in Old Europe we are much less concerned about so called "invasive plants" - maybe we shoud have an eye on it.
Good to see your postings again. Hope you are recovering well, and doing fine. With thanks, and all my best wishes to you.
Peter
