Jay is quite common bird but difficult to photograph. They are very shy and act very nervously making an escape for the any reason.

From Birdguides:

Jay (Garrulus glandarius)

In: Eurasian Jay Ca: Gaig Da: Skovskade De: Eichelhäher Es: Arrendajo común Fi: närhi Fr: Geai des chênes It: Ghiandaia Nl: Gaai No: Nøtteskrike Pt: Gaio Sv: Nötskrika US: Eurasian Jay Ru: Сойка

Jays are splendidly colourful birds. The colour of their body parts almost defies description but the patch at the bend of the wing is unmistakably blue. The smirking black moustache and black and white flecked crown gives them a comical appearance. In flight the wings show black and white as well as blue but it's the broad white rump patch which is most conspicuous.

Breeds and winters in orchards and dense thickets within woodlands, also in hedges and gardens.

Jays become more conspicuous in autumn when they regularly fly back and forth, collecting food, such as acorns in one area and burying it elsewhere. This process has played a vital role in the establishment and maintenance of Oak woodland.

Birds living to the west and south are sedentary but, when acorn crops fail, the populations in the north and east undergo mass 'irruptions' to areas in the south and west.

Hello Pekka,
wonderful portrait of this Jay!
The saturated colours are really vibrent.
Sharp with fine detail and clarity.
Excellent diagonal composition.
Great DOF.Regards

Hello Pekka,
A great capture of this beautiful bird in a fine composition. Razor sharp details on its plummages. Vwery well composed and captured indeed.
TFS this beauty and cheers,

Hello Pekka,

What a shot!
I agree with you, they are extremely timid!
Two have begun visiting our garden and I have a couple of quite long distance shots through the window, but nothing to equal this! It is pin-sharp, the plummage details are spot on and the image is well positioned for composition, in the frame.
WEell done!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Pekka,

Beautiful close-up of this Jay. Excellent focus and sharpness. Superb colours. I have seen one this morning. Unfortunately, I cannot take pictures of birds with my camera, but they come very close to the houses here and are not so shy.

Hej Pekka,
What a splendid close capture of this Jay! I haven't seen this species for ages, hopefully we'll find one when the snow settles on the ground - then then come forward for food and are less shy. You show excellent details here and very fine colours too. Well done!
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hello Pekka,

You have made an excelent portret of this bird. The image quality is so fine tjat even fine details of plumage can be well observed. The sharp image of the bird stays nicely against the background. As you have used a soft light there are many fine color tones that can be seen on the plumage as well as on background.

Thank you for sharing,

Hallo Pekka
What a delightful and colourful image of this Jay. This is a beautiful bird and you have captured it in a perfect close-up pose. The different coloured of layered plumage is vivid and very bright and the details of the beak and almost blue eye are displayed well. The framing and composition is great. A pleasant image with great natural colours and light. Thanks for sharing. Reading your notes about the the shyness of the bird reminds me of the exact reaction the Hurricane Thrush displays when one try to photograph it. Kind regards
