Some FAQ's about Swans

What do Swans eat?

Swans living on Freshwater will eat Pondweed, grass, tadpoles and insects
Swan living in Saltwater will eat grasses, rushes, insects and molluscs.

What can we feed Swans?

Fresh Bread (Mould is poisoness to them) also wheat and corn is good. Always feed in water as Swans swallow the food with water and also it keeps them on the Water where they are safer.

Can you give them too much?

No not at all, Swans are not greedy so only eat what they need, so don't worry when they ignore your bread they are just full.

Do Swans mate for life?

Mostly, but divorce sometimes occurs, also when a partner is lost a Swan will grieve for a period and then find a new partner in time.

How long do they live?

Normally 12 years or so in the Wild but in a protected area it can be a long as 30 years.

What are the biggest treats?

Natural treats are things like Foxes and Mink, but now Pollution, Vandelisum, Uncontrolled Dogs, Fishing Tackle, Lead poinoning and Power Cables are major causes of Injury and Death.

Can Swans inter-breed with different spiecies

I've seen some pictures of a Whopper Swan and a Trumpeter Swan couple with three little Tropper Cygnets but I don't think its very common.

P.S.
I have not seen a nest here, but Loch Garry is a large area and I only get to a small tributary of it.

bonjour hilary
il est assez reussi ce portrait, net avec un beau fond bleu qui fait ressortir l'oiseau,il est juste un peu trop exposé sur le front je pense.
