Mute Swan Cygnets
The male and the female birds, the cob and pen, usually attempt to mate for life, although it is not true to say that if one of the birds were to die the other would necessarily pine away. It is possible for an adult bird to find an alternative mate.

The nest is a huge mound of material, normally dried grasses and assorted vegetation, sticks and rushes, constructed at the water's edge. The nest is built by the female, while the male supplies the materials.

The female lays up to seven eggs between late April and early May. Both sexes incubate the eggs, which hatch after 35-41 days. The young birds, or cygnets, sometimes ride on their parents' backs and remain with the adult birds for four or five months. Cygnets are generally dingy brown above and whitish below. Occasionally' cygnets may be all white and are known as 'Polish swans'.

The young of some pairs are driven off the breeding territory as soon as their plumage is predominantly white (during late autumn or winter). Other broods often accompany their parents to the wintering area, and usually join a large flock in which they remain when the parents return to their breeding territory. Young birds will not generally breed for the first two years of adult life.

The oldest ringed wild mute swan was 15 years old

Hi Deborah,
Its a beauty. I was thinking 'ready, steady, go'.
Try setting your camera to under expose next time you are taking birds with white on in sunlight. You have to experiment I'm afraid but over bright whites tend to knock the edge off photo's.
Still a good one to look at. An 'Ooh Ah' picture as they say.
Best wishes,
Peter

Hi Deborah.

Things that I think make this an excellent photo:
1. The smooth blue water which gives a sense of peacefulness.
2. The outstanding exposure which allows for reproduction of nice natural colors.
3. The razor sharp focus which produced nice details.
4. Your outstanding low POV.
5. The light in all three visible eyes.
I do think cropping is a bit tight on the right.
TFS.

Hello Deborah,
Cuteness overload as these three fluff balls wing to wing, good exposure and nive sharp focus, thanks Deborah.
Rick

It's the time when these wonders start to know the planet. I like the feeling that transmit the image: the cygnets together very close trying to find protection against this new luminous world and, especially, the shy touching of the surface of the last one.

Now this is getting right on the point of view. I sure like the compostion of the three lined up. Great colour and ripples.

bonjour deborah
ils sont mignons ces trois petits jumeaux, bonne netteté et exposition maitrisée.
