Pied Wagtail (Motacilla alba Yarrellii) the very common member of the wagtail family easy to spot being pure black and white in colour but a real pain to get a good image of because of the total colour contrast, also they never seem to stop moving, forever chassing around are insects and bobbing up and down in the manner that gives them their common name of wagtail.
People often think of wagtails as a waterside bird, but the pied Wagtail does not seem to mind where it is providing there are pleany of insects for it to feed on, though i have seen them scavanging crumbs in urban parks where people have dropped food.
Their original nesting places must of been limited, as the like to use holes in rock faces and piles of fallen rocks. These days how ever we provide them with dry stone walls old buildings and walls with missing bricks. in our nursery yard the seem to prefer the stacks of bricks and paving blocks stacked ready for use. but they have also used a pallet load of rockery stone so almost a natural spot , to one year they successfully nested in our very large yellow JCB telleport fork lift truck, inspite of it being in daily use most of the time and even with it being driven out to site and back a few times, the parents just seemed to wait till it came back and started to feed the chicks again no matter where it was in the yard.
Shot in Raw and converted in Raw Shooter to Tiff the edited in PS(CS) before being cropped to 800pixels , converted to Jpeg and file reduced to 200k to make it postable to TN
