This was taken in the New Forest a few weeks ago, out of all the many Birds that live there at the moment there seems to be very few Robins. But this one was very protective of its area.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods.

Hi Nick,

A very beautiful robin that you have captured here. The colors are excellent and very natural. Good details of the entire bird. A wonderful pose on that interesting looking log. I am always surprised at the difference between your Robins and the American Robins. Yours are so sweet looking and delicate.

Hello Nick

Hello Nick,
a nice shot of this Robin.
+++ Excellent colours in the BG and bird, a great DOF, good composition and POV.
--- Could be a bit sharper on the head but any half-decent software could easily do that :)
Very good capture.
Well done,

Hello Nick,
I like the composition of this Robin shot with the gnarled log against a fine bokeh. The Robin itself is pretty sharp and well exposed. this is a fine adult individual with neat plumage.
TFS and have a good week,

Well it may not be the Robin I grew up with. Here in the US they all look quite different, however this one is much prettier and you have shown off it's colors well. The natural perch and OOF background are great. Thanks once more for your wonderful bird pictures.

Hello Nick,
Just marking my critique for now, as I don't have
much time right now to make a proper one. but I'll be back later.

Another of your excellent work of nature!
Perfect exposure and focus in this Robin,
very sharp with good colour and details
well done indeed!

Hi Nichiolas,
Still another Robin that I am not familiar with. We see Robins here in February/March. Outstanding composition and color against a fine BG. Very well captured.

Hello Nic, splendid colors on this photo,
lovely pose and background, wonderfull composition,

Wonderful composition - love the colors here - the wood in the foreground makes an interesting prop. Lovely!

Hello Nicholas
Excellent shot of this Robin,
Great focusing,BG and lighting,Welldone.

They are beautiful birds! I like them a lot but we don't have them in my country, they are really different. This is a good composition with excellent POV and colors. I think that it could be a little sharper, especially on its head but this is nothing that bad :) Thanks!

Hi Nick,
Lovely capture of Robin Redbreast in profile behind the interesting log. Great sharpness, fine colours and I like the soft greeen background. Well composed too.
Many thanks, Ulla

Good capture and colors - just the head area looks a tad soft. Other than that it's just a beauty! Cheers, Klaus

Nicholas I many times envy you for taking pictures of such a lovely and nice robin's and birds. Your pictures are such a great experience for me. Ganesh

Hi Nicholas,

Wonderful picture of a great bird. Very good composition, with excellent depth of field and nice, what looks like early evening light, bringout the colours perfectly. A tiny bit of post production sharpening would give it a little more clarity, but it's a great pucture as it is.

Kind regards,

joli ce petit rouge gorge, belle posture, les couleurs nettes et gaies, bien vu, bon travail, bravo, bien a toi

I love this shot with the brilliant colours so much. Very impressive.
Best wishes,

Hi Nick,
A beautiful bird this robin is. You have captured it very well with excellent details and a nice POV. The evenly blurred BG works well here. Thanks a lot for sharing.
